Hey all, rummaging through the net and i began to wonder if anyone knew all the different comic books series that came out for the forgotten realms. I know about the "Forgotten Realms" Series as well as the Grand Tour (fun to read but horriable art work) and off course the drizzt series, but was their anything else? |

Me, I've got an odd history with those DC/TSR titles. I started with Dragonlance #4, and later branched into AD&D with the 8th issue, if I remember correctly. Spelljammer #1 was hand-signed by the inker; I didn't realize that at first, and thought some jerk had scribbled in the book while it was still in the not-so-friendly local comic shop (the guy that ran the place seemed to think we were there for him, not the comics he was selling).
Then I bailed on comics, and got rid of all of them.
Later I got back into comics, and picked them all up again -- possibly even some of the same ones I'd traded in. I also picked all the missing issues at that time.
Fast forward several years. Most of my comics were occupying a lot of space in the closet of my tiny apartment. My girlfriend moved in, so I had to make some closet space for her. The comics went into my stepmom's storage unit. But not the DC/TSR titles -- those I kept handy. What went into storage was six long boxes of comics that I didn't want, but that I wasn't just going to throw away.
When we moved out of my apartment, all my stuff, including the DC/TSR comics, went into storage. And then the storage place burned down. So the only comics I lost were the only ones I wanted to keep! 
Luckily, though, I was able to replace them fairly quickly off of eBay. I think I got all of the comics for a grand total of less than $50. There were two lots that had everything but one single issue, and I bought that one by itself from another seller. Those were among the first things I replaced!

I will probably look for them at a later date. At the moment I have to little space as it is and a long list of LP's, books, TSR products and 40's movies that I need to get my hand on. My Comic books, consisting of a very typical 70's and 80's Norwegian collection here, (Belgian and French titles in addition to Donald Duck (I think most Americans would be shocked at the role this series and especial Carl Barks has in Scandinavia), various Disney, Beetle Bailey, Tarzan and the Phantom, Star Wars etc) is mostly on hold, but with a few titles trickling in now and then. Now that is a sentence that could need some work looking back at it.
I could probably put some of the comic books in storage, but I like to have things at hand. Thankfully I have a wife that shares the same interests as me, otherwise she would probably have gone mad by now. |

I was lucky enough to pick up most of the original titles when they first appeared. I remember my experience with the DRAGONLANCE comics specifically, because I was re-organising my comic subscription at the local store when I heard of its eventual release here. I'd grown tired of a couple of Marvel/DC titles during this period, and instead chose to drop them in favour of the DL comic. I did the same again with SPELLJAMMER, but the "patchy" nature of the stories in that series eventually forced me to re-subscribe to the title I dropped in order to make room for the SJ comic. |

The Grand Tour comic was bad all the way around, thinks I. Its only saving grace was including the kids from the D&D cartoon -- though they somehow managed to make Bobby look about 10 years older than everyone else!
There was also a Baldur's Gate one-shot, which was connected to the game of the same name.
There was a six-part series planned called Forbidden Sands of Anauroch. They released two of the six hardcover comics -- yes, hardcover comic books -- and that was it.
There were some FR tales in the short-lived Worlds of D&D comic.
You mentioned the Drizzt comics, which I believe came from Devil's Due Publishing.
And the Forgotten Realms series, of course. However, the Forgotten Realms series was one of two titles set in the Realms that DC and TSR teamed up to publish -- the other was the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons series. The AD&D series was set mostly in and around Waterdeep, and it was there that we first met Priam Agrivar, who later started in the FR title. As much as I liked both titles, I have to say I liked AD&D more. Both titles were considered canon, and we've seen characters and events from the comics referenced in later novels and sourcebooks.
They also tried to do a comic based on the Avatar trilogy. I know they did the first issue, but if there were any later ones, I didn't see them.
I've got the entirety of the FR and AD&D titles, a copy or two of The Grand Tour, both issues of Forbidden Sands of Anauroch, and I'm expecting delivery on my Baldur's Gate comic any day now (finally found a decent copy to replace my toasted one). |
