Posted - 27 Nov 2003 : 11:41:10 Well after finishing the novel, I guess it wasnt THAT bad. I wouldnt rave about it as its very much the same most of the way thorough..... you could sum the story up in three words (rearrange the following: fight orcs dwarves). Strangely, I thought Drizzt had quite a minor part in the whole novel and was written about very sparcely.

Posted - 27 Nov 2003 : 07:20:26 I have to say that I like the Character shifts. Regis being the Leader. I'm glad that there is a Super Orc bad guy,...thats something I think could have an interesting twist on it...I also especially like the relationship brewing between Drizzt and Innovindel. and how it kinda happened. I think Innovindel would be an interesting match for Drizzt, she could bring Drizzt into Elven culture and she has a lifespan to match his own even tho she is 230 yrs older...i think it's time Drizzt traded up and i think the way R. A. Salvatore did it was smoothe, keeping the intergrity of the character with the factor that life is unexpected...I try to picture in my head what Innovindel would actually look like and I keep envisioning Deedlit from the Anime, Record of Lodoss War...if anybody know of where there are some conceptual sketches of Drizzt, Innovindel or any of the Companions of the Hall, or Entreri..(Anybody from those books, really) then I'd like to know...presonally i liked the book and the direction its going...I'll leave with a question that I've thought alot about myself (even tho it's unrelated) who would win in a fight: Drizzt Do'Urden(tne Hunter) or Kenshin Himura (Hitokiri Battousai) from the anime Rurouni Kenshin...? |

Dear gods, I hope so... |

Posted - 10 Nov 2003 : 01:42:04 Hail n well met
I actually quite enjoyed this title too.
There was quite a bit on the Dwarves and their war-master/warlord as well as portraying the relationships between the Companions more intimately - Catt n Wulfie coming to terms with each other on their separate love lives, Regis maturing from that cheeky opportunistic halfing from Icewind Dale and a surprise comeback from my fav dwarf (after Flint from that other world) And finally, our main man, ehm elf, ehm drow coming to grips with his pseudo-personality, kinda reminds me of Clacker, or Sorak (from Athas, sorry, can't remember that other world ), just not as pronounced. And can anyone spell possible romance/ relationship for him...... Hee Hee Hee (poor Doo-Dad too).
RAS is very descriptive, he seems to want to mesmerise his readers with his dazzling scimitar work , sometimes to the point of writing repetitively..... One must admit though, he's work are gems for FR IMHO, Paul Kemp (Cale) is the other writer whose work I am eagerly anticipating. And Elaine Cunningham of course.

Quite bland up to now, still, ill continue and hopefully it will pick up soon.
I actually enjoyed it. I can understand how you got tired of reading the killing of orcs. But this was in all actuallity a way for Salvator to tempt Drizzt's sanity, making the book more interesting. This was really a book on how many could deal with a loss and still survive. |

Apologies again. I did not mean for you to suddenly think Mr. Salvatore had finally decided to listen to some posters on WOTC boards regarding, "Who would win in a fight, Elminster or Drizzt?" |

EEE??? Sorry for the misunderstanding. E is for Eilistraee which is apparently mentioned in the latest DAHBOR novel. The Mortality Radio Interview featured R.A. Salvatore plugging this latest book and can be found at www.mortality.net. |

I got mine Monday afternoon. Finished it last night. Yup, there is an "E" word in there.
Still amazes me that the "E" word was mentioned, especially after his comments during the Mortality Radio Interview about the War of the Spider Queen series. |

Posted - 06 Nov 2003 : 20:44:09 Finally the hundred years of this Demon's banishment from this scroll is over, much to the dismay of others ... Hmm the Lone Drow... I shall have to pick up this tome... We shall see ArionElenim.... We shall see... On a side note... I was rather disappointed with the lack of coverage that Dealt with Menzo during the Time of Troubles in the Legacy of the Drow.... that and I wonder if any rules were broken in allowing Lolth Access to the Abyss... Any comments on that? I am curious as I would think it would earn a oneway trip to oblivion courtesy of Helm... Like he did with Mystra (Yay Helm!) |

Posted - 06 Nov 2003 : 19:51:40 For some reason, William my good man, I don't follow the Demon Wars stuff.....don't ask me why...just never have.
Uhmm...don't know anything about a new short story either...last one from Salvatore I knew about was the one in Realms of Shadow (Artemis and Jarlaxle's adventures with the Shadow Weave)...
Yup, LD has the so-called "E" word in it, although Drizzt is nowhere near it when it it spoken. At any rate, I am sure that he has heard the Sage of Shadowdale's name spoken before...he's been to Silverymoon way too many times to have avoided it.........
I really liked the Bouldershoulders' roles in this one...MUCH MUCH MUCH less comedy relief than Thousand Orcs (seemed like every scene they were in TO had them running head long into trees and doing Vaudeville routines).
I think that this is the best Drizzt novel since Siege of Darkness....man, I REALLY felt Drizzt in this one; I was completely wrapped up in how refined and focused Salvatore was here...you could TASTE Drizzt's angst and loneliness...esp. as regards the moments with Innovindil....
Lone Drow is one of the most psychological Salvatore novels to date. Ugh, I can't say enough good things about it... |

Posted - 04 Nov 2003 : 02:02:42 Arion, I got my copy of the Lone Drow over the weekend, matter of fact the new quote I have up is something he added when he signed my book, all I asked for was To Tim Whaley. The main thing I am posting about though is the printed sheet that came with it.It has Highwayman in large print at the top and says,"Includes the all new Drizzt short story".From reading below I take it this is a Demon Wars book and is an unexpected episode in the Chronicles of Corona. It is from the early days in the land of Corona, long before the Demon Wars.Anyway the E-signing is Jan 4th.Have you followed any of this with the Demon Wars? What is this all new short story? Thanks for any comments or help.
