Posted - 27 Sep 2009 : 09:27:10 I was looking over the "Novel Areas" thread but didn't really see anything for what I was looking for. I was wondering what books covered the areas of Western Cormyr, the Western Heartlands, mostly the area north of Amn (i.e. The Greenfields), and Amn itself. I'm trying to get a good handle on the lore and current events of that area and I thought reading material that takes place there would help. |

I'm pretty sure we're just looking for FR titles, here. |

Posted - 27 Sep 2009 : 11:51:27 Just hold on a second while I slap myself. *slap*. OK, done. How could I forget the various Volo's Guides?
For Cormyr: Volo's Guide to Cormyr (also a free download from the same page).
Then there is Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast(covers most of the cities and villages in the Western Heartlands north of Amn). Hmm... I was under the misapprehension that this was also a free download, or at least it was (my PDF does not have a Paizo watermark, unlike the PDFs I bought when they were still available... But it's not on the list anymore, apparently. You may be able to get it from ebay or the second-hand booksellers (or, for instance the "used" sections from Amazon).
Also useful, probably (although I have never owned it): Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate II (which deals with parts of Amn). Never PDF-ed officially, and not always easy to get.
Other than those, the basics, really: one of the Campaign sets/guides (1e, 2e, 3e) which provides some information on the wilderness sites in the area you're looking for. |

Posted - 27 Sep 2009 : 10:37:53 Thanks for the info so far and I'm pretty much looking for anything regarding those areas. My main intrest is between or around 1350-1384 DR as well as general lore but before is fine too. I'm trying to keep it pre-spellplague because that always confuses the heck out of me, but I won't complain if you find anything after it either.

Posted - 27 Sep 2009 : 10:29:02 Novels - the only one that springs to mind (but I am not really up-to-date on novels) is Crypt of the Shadowking, which is set in Iriaebor. The Veiled Dragon is set in Elversult (which, strictly speaking, is the Dragon Coast area, not the Western Heartlands).
When you are talking about "current events", which era are you looking for(current as of 1e (1357)/2e (1367)/ 3e (1372)? 4e?)? If it's the 1e/2e/3e era, then (for Amn, at least) you could check out the Lands of Intrigue boxed set. Out of print, yes, but available as a PDF, for free, from the WotC Old Edition Downloads Page! |
