Today I went to a used book store and came out with quite a haul. All together, I bought sixteen new books, so I'm looking for some suggestions on where to start. The books are scattered across different series, so some of them I can't really read yet, but I just want some suggestions.

The books I picked up were:
Realms of Infamy
Curse of the Shadowmage (Harpers 11)
The Night Parade (Harpers 4)
The Parched Sea (Harpers 1)
Rising Tide (Threat From the Sea 1)
Dangerous Games (Netheril 2)
Once Around the Realms
The Ogre's Pact (The Twilight Giants 1)
The Titan of Twilight (The Twilight Giants 3)
Horselords (The Empires 1)
Crusade (The Empires 3)
The City of Ravens (The Cities)
Prophet of Moonshae (Druidhome 1)
The Wizardwar (Couselors and Kings 3)
Song of the Saurials (Finder's Stone 3)
The Witch's Daughter (Not FR, just something I've been looking for )

I have eight other Harpers books, and I was thinking about reading the Harpers in order, just for kicks, but I don't have all of them. I only have the first book of Threat from the Sea. I can't really start the Netheril Trilogy yet, because I only have book two. I don't have book two of Twilight Giants or Empires. I have one other Cities book, but if I'm not mistaken, those are standalones. I haven't finished the Moonshae trilogy yet, so I should probably hold off on Druidhome. I have book one, but not two of Councilors and Kings. I've already read the first two books in the Finder's Stone trilogy. So, does anyone have any suggestions?

Song of the Saurials (Finder's Stone 3)

I would highly recommend reading the 3rd book of Finder's Stone Trilogy! Great series and also read the Harpers novel Masquerades afterwards if you have that as well!

Dead, actually. *Fatal* heart attack. (more info here)

I was commenting only on my opinion of this particular book. I have written a review of it for Tethtoril's Bookshelf that has not yet been posted. I don't doubt that there are worse FR novels. Once Around the Realms just happens to be the one I've liked the least of the ones I've read thus far.

Oh, I understood what you were saying and respect your opinion--I just think a few of the authors and some of the posters here are a bit raw about it, so I just wanted to head off a bout of ill-speaking regarding the departed. That's all.

[back to lurking I go]

Elfsong and Silver Shadows are pretty much concurrent, but officially, Silver Shadows follows Elfsong. That was also the publishing order.

I stand corrected. So, at the beginning of Elfsong, when Arylin claims she has "another mission" is she referring to the assignment that is the substance of Silver Shadows?

Yup. And while she's playing in the woods, Dan is off chasing the evil bard. When they meet at the end of Silver Shadows, the adventures of Elfsong are over and done with. So Silver Shadows begins a bit before Elfsong, and ends a bit after -- but the bulk of the story is at the same time and a bit later.

I've already read those, and I agree.

I was just considering re-reading them along with the rest of the Harpers series, but I'm still missing 5 books. Well, I'll get them eventually. I still have quite a few to catch up on!

Of the Harpers, I have Parched Sea, Elfshadow, The Night Parade, Crypt of the Shadowking, Elfsong, Crown of Fire, Curse of the Shadowmage, Silver Shadows, Stormlight, Finder's Bane, and Thornhold.

Elfshadow, Elfsong and Silver Shadows. That's as good as it gets.

Exactly what I was going to say, except that Silver Shadows comes before Elfsong.

Also, please note that the author of Once Around the Realms--the illustrious and kind-hearted Brian Thomsen--only a couple months ago suffered a tragic and fatal heart-attack. (He was in his 40s, I think.)

So please--voice your disapproval of the book if you will, just let's all be respectful.

And as far as your list there, you really need book 2 of Councilors and Kings, it may be my favorite trilogy of them all.

Here are several affordable copies : The Floodgate

Gonna have to start with a stand alone since you are missing a few book 2s in trilogies and other missing novels. I suggest start with Once Around the Realms.

Nnoooooooo..please no!! Once Around the Realms is far and away the worst FR novel I have had the misfortune to pick up. Don't take my word for it. Look around for some reviews. There's one in Tethtoril's Bookshelf at Candlekeep.com.

Which of the Harpers books do you have?

There's more than a few books I would nominate for "worst FR novel" -- and Once Around the Realms isn't one of them.

I agree with the Wooly one, I actually enjoyed Once Around the Realms. It is light years ahead of The Lady Penetant Trilogy.

Have to agree when it comes to Once Around the Realms, there is little reason to go near that one.

Take a Harper book (Night Parade is a personal favourite, but I am in a minority there)or The Ogre Pact, it works quite well as a standalone novel.

I suggest City of Ravens. The protagonist, Jack Ravenwild is one of my all time favorite realms characters.
