"The Forgotten Realms are a world very similar to the Earth of the 13th and 14th centuries."
That's about as close as you're likely to get. Aside from the other tidbits Ed has mentioned in his replies here at Candlekeep with respect to real-world influences upon the Realms -- especially in his '06 and '07 replies. |

I don't know that WotC has ever released any numbers for book sales. |
