Hi guys, do you have any suggestion as which FR novel should I read next? I just finished Lady Penitent and the first book in the Emperyan Odissey. Last Mythal looked great.

Thanks

I just noticed at fantasybookspot that Paul Kemp is listed as a contributor to the next issue of Heliotrope.

Yep, the books by Paul Kemp are very good, I have enjoyed the Avatar series so far, Moonshae trilogy, I enjoyed Swordmage.

I always recommend anything by Paul Kemp.

If you haven't read them yet, the Citadel books are great as well (Have only read 3 of the 4 so far, but they were all great!)

By new do you mean recently published 8in which case I cant help you) or do you mean any Realms book? I would suggest finding as many of the old Harper series as possible, most of these are entertaining enough and a good introduction to many of the old TSR writers.

I am not sure how I managed to forget mentioning Paul Kemp up there, since Ervis Cale is my current favorite Realms entity.

The new Greenwood books, Knights of Myth Drannor, was a surprisingly good read.

Spellfire by Ed was my first FR read and it turns out to be one of the first ever FR books.Loved it, in fact, i'm gonna go dust it off and read it again.

my favorite was The Rage, The Rite, and The Ruin. of the Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy.

other suggestion (which I have read)
Shadow's Wittness (its in the Sembia:Gateway to the Realms series, but is a stand alone novel where each one can be read seperately)

there are more talented writers than Salvatore in the Forgotten Realms. Remember that! Sometimes i feel like that guy has a cult of loyal followers that thinks he's god or something.

to end i'll just encourage you to continue reading, you've read one or two already, WotC has the best fantasy on the market,

oh, and no I'm not a Salvatore hater

If you want something "new" (like last 2 or 3 years)...

Try Ghostwalker or Depths of Madness by Erik Scott de Bie

Shield of the Weeping Ghosts or Bloodwalk by James P. Davis

Sentinelspire or Frostfell by Mark Sehestedt

I could go on, but that a great start to some newer stuff!

Last Mythal was a huge, cast of 1000s Realms Shattering Event (RSE). I only recommend it if you are interested in those kinds of novels. Rich Baker did a good job, but you often feel like he was trying to squeeze a bigger story into three, short novels.

I recommend picking up a used copy of The Simbul's Gift or the Finder's Bane from Amazon.com

If you like trilogies, check out the first Erevis Cale trilogy.

So many good novels to chose from.

I would go back and read some really old school stuff, like the Dark Elf Trilogy by R. A. Salvatore, the Moonshae Trilogy by Douglas Niles, or the Songs and Swords Series by Elaine Cunningham. Anything by Ed Greenwood is also good to get that authentic Realms feel (though his books can be a bit difficult to follow at times).
