Posted - 10 Nov 2005 : 08:08:05 In Champions of Ruin theres a section under each evil organization called "Costs and Benefits of Membership" basicly if your a member of an organization then you get a certain benefit theres no requirement for getting the benefit other than Membership in the group.
However in Eric Boyds City of Splendors its has its own version of organisation write ups, you still get a benefit for being a member of an organization such as the Harpers, Shadow thieves, Noble houses and the Various knight orders etc HOWEVER you now need to take the Favored in Guild Feat to get the Fringe benefit.
Now this creates abit of an unconsistency as at present a member of the Zhentarim gets his benefits for free (because its in CoR) but a member of Xanthers Thieves guild has to expend a feat to get the benefit (because its in City of Splendors)....
Now does a member of one of the COR organizations have to take the Favoured in guild feat to get the benefits written up in CoR? |

Hey Eric why are the some of the favoured guild benefits for the Religious orders so weak compared to the other organisations in CoS?
Alot of them have the the restrictions that you can only get the benefit once per character level. Most of the other favoured group benefits are persistant or can at least be used more than once per charcter level
No idea, but Rich should know. Like I said, I didn't actually write the Favored in Guild benefits ... that was a case of co-development (DMG2 written at same time) and the developer (comes after the designer) taking advantage of the in progress work in-house.

That's a reasonable house rule.
Remember that Champions of Ruin was developed BEFORE DMG2, where the Favored in Guild feat was introduced. In fact, my turnover for City of Splendors: Waterdeep had no reference to the Favored in Guild feat; Rich Baker did a heroic job of updating that chapter to take advantage of the new rules.

I never bought DMG2 so CoS was the first time I saw the feat, does CoV use the Favored in guild feat or are its organizations written up like those in CoR? |
