The race they show as gloamings in the Underdark campaign accessory are kind of cool, but I've never even heard of them before now. Luminescent skin SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING if a gloaming is a planetouched being descended from natives of Toril and THE PLANE OF SHADOW!!!! No luminescence in the plane of shadow! Plus, where do the wings come from???? However, I would like some more info on this race if possible, because they seem sort of cool. Not as cool as drow, of course , but cool nontheless. |

I tend to view the luminescence as a way to communicate and possibly to attract prey. I liken it to deep sea fish. Many of them glow and a couple like the angler fish (?) use a bit of light to attract prey to them.
It could also be a defensive reaction to the everpresent gloom of the Plane of Shadows. |
