Okay I am sure several of you have built whole cities from the 3D popups that you can buy or download or some may have made their own.
I know some of this was for castles but has anyone put together a favorite city,village,town with any of these? |

Lego! HUZZAH! Heh heh heh...
Actually... Legos have yet to be knocked down as the finest building block set of the world (I recommend seeing the Monty Python And the Quest for the Holy Grail, 'Knights of the Roundtable' song done all in legos.. Now that was Genius )
Truthfully.. Still building a Faerun city of some sort of modeling stuff ( Lego, Model kits, etc) would have to be intresting to say the least... I never could do it though... something made must either be shrined or destroyed... for it will not last... |

I'm not sure I really care for that idea. The Realms is already heavy with real-life influences as it is.

I think he meant for home decoration for Christmas.
And there's no reason why you can't have it in the Realms. Sure, I don't think a Nativity scene would be appropriate (though that Chick guy'd say it was blasphemous, which would be a good reason to do it  ). But the whole Christmas scene, apart from the religious aspects and most of the gift-giving, came from the Britons when missionaries went there. It was combined with Yuletide and the pomp of the event quickly spread. (Hey, a fun holiday is better than a serious one, right?)
So you could easily have a non-Christian "Christmas" there. Especially as it's basically non-Christian these days anyway . . . .  |

I do have pictures, the real question is, can your email folder hold them?. They are rather large files, so I may not be able to send them unless I convert them to a lesser file format, and that usually distorts the picture somewhat.
As for the WotC models, I have used them from time to time, but I prefer my Warhammer and Lego models, they are solid and give the setting a more intense sense of reality. The paper models often rip, or are bent or whatever.

I've tried using them and they are very good.
I built a complete village a couple of years ago for a "weekend special" and it worked very well. This was using Warhammer buildings IIRC since at that time the WOTC buildings weren't available. The main problem is space. If I had more space, I'd do this a lot more often.

Well, for most of my campaigns, I use the various buildings that I use in my Warhammer games so I only have to craft these types of things once. Or failing that I construct my pieces using good old LEGO....
As for constructing favorite locales, well I have only tried my hand once at building a well known location...a scale-version of Castle Ravenloft. It was inspired by P.N. Elrod's work in the Strahd novels. It still exists and it rests right alongside my other scale-model attempt. A model of the TARDIS, another Elrod inspired idea .
