Posted - 09 May 2008 : 22:50:16 Mods: I'm not sure if this is the correct forum. Please feel free to move this thread as you like.
It seems unlikely that I'm going to continue playing FR in 4th Edition, and I'll be off-loading my collection on to E-Bay in the next few weeks.
I've put together a bibliography of what I own, and am putting it here. I'd like to have some ideas on whether I should sell it all-together or piece-meal it out from some folks that have experience on E-bay and different ways that I could market my auctions.

Posted - 01 Sep 2008 : 13:33:02 I tried to convince him not to sell. I really, really did. But since he wouldn't listen I got a Waterdeep box set. As for selling it through e-bay, the fellow who is listing it wouldn't go for individual sales I'm sure. |

Posted - 30 Aug 2008 : 00:55:41 No problem. I just want to get my hands on the materials. After that, I can work on getting specific items in pristine condition if I feel the need. |

Posted - 30 Aug 2008 : 00:37:56 Thanks!
FYI, all of the maps from the boxed sets are laminated. I had them all pieced together and displayed on the walls of the game room. |

Posted - 29 Aug 2008 : 12:43:57 I just wanted to report that the first of two auctions is now up.
This is all of the 1E/2E Forgotten Realms stuff. Please PM me if you've got questions.

Oh man. I am sorry. I still have mone. You can come over and check it out anytime.
My comic book collection, that is.
Ironically, the only comics I lost in the fire were the ones I wanted to keep. I've got like 6 or 7 longboxes elsewhere that I have zero use for. The only thing keeping me from tossing them is the fact I spent a lot of money on comics back in the day, and I don't want to let them go without getting something back in return. |

Posted - 18 May 2008 : 00:51:05 Don't forget to put "will combine shipping costs with my other auctions".
That way, people who buy one will naturally look to get a bargain by checking out the others.

Even though she made a small fortune, it still brings tears to my eyes thinking about it. <snif> |

I'd sell it all individually. It's more time and effort, but I think it would net you better results than one big lot.
I agree with Wooly. I do a decent amount of ebay selling including old D&D stuff, and you will make more selling individually
I agree. In any case there may be some people who just must have a particular Item, and will pay through thier ears to get it(not that you should accept money that came from someone else's ear) otherwise it's just a "Value Pack". |

Posted - 14 May 2008 : 21:58:18 As a buyer I much prefer that items be sold individually or in logical sets (e.g., FRA 1-3, but even then, I may have been trying to buy them one at a time and may already have one or two). Many times I have seen an item that I really want but either don't bid on because it's tossed in higgledy-piggledy with a bunch of books I already own (or am not interested in buying) OR the price goes through the roof because the seller has put together one lot with many items that many buyers want, each wanting something separately ("Hey, bid on my lot of Waterdeep Trail Map, Kara Tur Trail Map, Cloakmaster Cycle, and complete autographed set of the Double Diamonds 1-9!")

Pages ... is a book focusing on spellbooks, IIRC it compiles and adds to Ed's Dragon articles |

Yes, it's from 2e and it's kinda a companion book to Prayers of the Faithful. It's kinda in the same line of material as that book. |

I agree with Victor. You should think this out carefully. I've just recently come back to D&D after a 20 year absence and I'm gaming with my kids. But I didn't keep anything so I had to repurchase it all. If your partner does not object and you have the space to store them, you might consider just moth-balling them for 10 years till your kids are ready to play. Just a thought. Afet
This is what I did after college and my military service. now-a-days, I just peruse my boxes of old lore and bring things out during discussions here on these boards. Additionally, my oldest son is really starting to dig dragons He actually has just started reading the first book of the Dragon Lance chronicles. The Army moved my realms and D&D stuff around the world with me for 12 years.
Keep your stuff my friend, unless you just really have to get rid of it.

Posted - 10 May 2008 : 11:22:46 It depends on how much money you want to earn with the books and how much time you want to spend on selling these books. Selling all books in one bundle generally reduces your time spent and the money earned. Selling them individually generally increases your time spent and the money earned. :-)
I would be interested in the books for a decent price (I've got some already), but I am living in Switzerland. :-( |

Posted - 10 May 2008 : 06:36:46 I've been thinking about it for nearly 9 months now, and I'm pretty certain that this is the right direction to go. I'm very much a utilitarian, I keep things that are useful (if only in a sentimental sense). What I've come to realize is that it is not these products that I am connected to, its the people, some of whom I've not seen in a long time. The people and the memories.
D&D game table is giving us the opportunity to re-connect, and I'm just going to take the time to go in a new direction is all. FR will always be my first love, but just as in RL, I didn't end up marrying my first love. But I'll always remember her. Same for FR. |

Posted - 10 May 2008 : 05:29:43 Sad to here a gamer selling out.
But remember there will come a time when you will have more time, and maybe you will regret your actions.
I hope you have given this much thought.
Best whishes.
Vic.
I think that every old gamer has been in that situation, where real life demands more time and you have to give something up fore a while.

BTW, I've made a lot of good friends here, and I don't see ya'll as often as I used to. I'm playing a free-online browser game called CyberNations. Anyone should feel free to stop by, register, and look me up. I'll help get ya started, and you might just find a home in the 500 person alliance that I currently lead.
;)
That game could always use a few more solid role-players.... |

Besides, shipping all of that in one box would be a pain, and it would be pricy. |
