I Say this as a Character, in Character and not as a gamer outside RPG. It seems every other topic is this god or that god, this being beyond a scope or definition formed or molded by an AO for a whatever to meet the expectations of a nobody.

It reads like a story about a general and defense minister and prime minister and president in place of Chuck Norris and Stalone or Arnie. Rambo the President goes to a small town to right a wrong, gives a speech. or Arnie the T3 only T5 star general gives a press briefing. Or Walker the Texas Governor drives into town to kiss babies and shake hands, gets his hand squeezed. Maybe it is Trumps' spokes lady gets asked to leave a restaurant.

We read storys of Rambo of Bourne of Hammer Slammers not boring political maybe stories. Maybe Trump buys the mortgage of the Red Hen and forecloses on the Restaurant, whoo action. :(

Can we have less posts of Tempest or Mystra or Bane or Obama or Clinton and more posts of Tobas or Pug or Asrael after Gargamel dies from Smurf Poison mysteriously in the night. less politics more action.

I had passwords issues with the wards here once. They were all magically resolved after I accosted Sage.

An old friend pinged me, and when the world (FR) is in trouble, its heroes come out of retirement.

Yeah... a bit melodramtic. LMAO

I had to request a new password just to get on here - lost all my passwords to all my sites when my old computer finally died (a moment of silence for a brave and noble servant who gave us all many maps and what-not). Currently I am working on hooking the old HD to my new computer and see whats-what. I don't even recall what I was working on - I took the final crash as a message to 'move on' with so many things.

Markustay! Missed you.

Oh, and I gave up chatting with Thrasky… he seems to love Thay as much as me, but in a weird way that doesn't respect the reality of things (in as much as there is reality in a shared imaginary realm).

I think labelling them as fairy tales is a bit of a misnomer. Also, keep in mind that in the Realms, the gods are very real, and exist and interact with mortals. Sure, there are myths, but tales of the gods themselves are facts within the setting.

I think the only fairy tale you should be concerned with is that Thay and you red wizards amount to anything other than a pathetic backwater with delusions of grandeur. Thay's entire magical might is middling at best and your political infighting during international conflicts brings to mind images of the Keystone Cops tripping over themselves.

Now, upset about the reality of gods, perhaps you might try (and fail) once again to assert your superiority over Mulhorand. It would be amusing to see the god-kings swat another red-wizard shaped gnat away.

-I agree with you to a point (if I am getting you properly). I would/would've loved to have seen more stuff about the minutia of the world: politicians politicking; alchemists collecting their weird ingredients; magicians studying ancient history in a library; clerics doing their daily rituals...At the same time, it's a business and by and large that kind of stuff isn't gonna sell. Using your examples, a Terminator movie about a bunch of IT guys coming up with coding, or a Rambo movie about Rambo successfully integrating back into civilian society and becoming a short order cook. Those would be massive flops.

-The Tales of X novel anthologies are good for that kind of stuff, though. They have short stories about the "major characters", but they also have interesting stories about completely new ones.

Uh ... the entire Forgotten Realms setting is already a big fairy tale, lol. Fairy tales within fairy tales as written by hundreds of fairy tellers.

A character within the setting might not like what he learns about the setting. But that's really the character's problem ... not a problem with the setting, not a problem with the other characters/commentators who observe and discuss it. The audience can always simply change the channel or seek other entertainments.

In-setting, of course there are going to be stories about the gods... Look at any real-world religion for the same thing. But, just like any real-world culture, that doesn't mean there are only stories about gods. A culture is going to have a lot of different stories, about mortals in a variety of situations doing a variety of things.

Just because we don't see a lot of that showcased in Realmslore doesn't mean it doesn't happen. There's practically no mention in Realmslore of going to the bathroom, but I'm not going to assume that everyone in the setting is perpetually constipated.

I'd expect that Thay has a lot of fairy tales about Red Wizard superiority.

Divination specialist tapped into the minds of all in this Keep I'm visiting. Would this forum be a product of their subconscious compilations? Maybe.

Red Wizards superiority fairy tales? In Thay Red Wizards are the superior facts. Fairy Tales are about the free slave canals and the Harpers who operate with impunity in Thay, outside Thay there are wild rumors and Tales of undead everywhere, hot deserts, very little food, slaves being used up in mass demon filled pits, Everyone shaving their heads, All Red Wizards following a strict set of rules all under the mind control of Szass Tam. Fairy Tales.

We don't need to ponder what Mystra is having for diner, who or what she sleeps with, or why Szass would sell his soul to Bane in a short 1000 years when he knows that he could be the new Velsharoon Replacement with support from Bane, Kossuth and Beshaba.

You are likely to get shouted down for saying god stories are boring and I too fond them completely irrelevant to any game I've ever played.
However, in a living world, the politics are important for driving the action and provides a lot of interest for us enthusiasts about plots and secrets.
The characters can just whale on an evil gang and find a cultist and kill him and all his friends, but discovering that the cultist is linked to a noble patron of the pcs who is trying to get money from the crown to assist in dealing with a sudden ruse in criminal activity (That he is secretly sponsoring) provides an extra added wow factor that turns a good campaign into a great campaign.

Politics make the world go round (even pretend worlds) the action is just for show.

If you look at a particular dracolich in the dalelands I believe you can see in one sourcebooks he was wounded by dragonslayers and then agreed to undergo the transformation. Another sourcebooks however details that the leader of a cult cell (The one that transformed the Dragon into a dracolich) actually supplied anti Dragon magic and the dragons lair to the dragonslayers.

I personally always try to find/add hidden plots and motivations for events as it makes the setting more real. But definitely no gods.
