I think, though, the scene at the inn with everyone coming together was pretty entertaining. |

It was fun reading how Elminster made Manshoon look like a novice and those small tidbits of information on Manshoon and his agreements with the eye tyrants made me hunger for more. I hope there'll be more... . Altogether a very realmsian book, I hope this one won't get as chaotic as some of Ed's other novels seem to get towards the end... |

Posted - 30 Aug 2007 : 04:06:26 Cool dark and seedy tavern - - and I LOVED the scene where Elminster, Manshoon, Khelben, and Vangerdahast all show up to glare at each other. A great contrast with the Knights scrambling desperately around in the cellars just trying to stay alive, and the villainous nobles purring at each other about their plots. Some writers would have milked the Zhent warrior character for an entire book, but Ed brings him onstage, makes his point, and throws the guy away, showing us how brutal life in the Realms can get. I think he was very wise to shove Old Ghost and Horaundoon offstage (probably for the rest of the book) so that weaker, more down-to-earth characters can shine. If half the Knights' adventures were as fun as SofEveningstar and this second book, so far, I'd give a lot to sit in on one of their adventuring sessions. Even if Lady THO wasn't waltzing around taking off her clothes. Blueblade |
