What was interesting to me as well was the fact that its easy to make assumptions when you don't know a given character's point of view. I was actually quite surprised when I realized that Isabeau never realized that her benefactor wasn't dead.
It also makes me wonder, though, about the nature versus nurture thing. Isabeau is a pain in the rear, and really does kind of act like frustrated nobility, as opposed to someone raised by people that were trying to keep her safe. Where the gnomes just too protective of her, and not willing to let her learn to be what she could be, which led to her less than pleasant outlook? Or was she just so intrinsically her mother's daughter that she couldn't help but be a pain in the rear? |
