1) has anyone run this and set it in the realms? if so, where?
2) why in the name of basic cable does this thing go for so much on the secondary market? i'm a collector and i missed it the first time around, and i'll be damned if i'm paying $50+ for it. |

Actually, I did have some serious connections in both modules with Ironfang Keep. The power trapped in my FR version of the original ToEE was Moander, rather than Zuggutomy. In the distant past, Moander had formed an alliance with the Princes of Elemental Evil. Thier combined forces were raiding the Elven Court during the debates that followed the exile of the Drow to the underdark (between the 4th and 5th wars).
The elves of the Elven Court lacked the magical might to deal with the problem themselves. It was the power of Ironfan Keep that taught the elven High Mages the spell to imprision Moander's avatar. This same spell was later used at both Yulash and Darkwatch - but it's first use was in the Earthspur Mountains.
My PC's were able to learn all of this when they researched the glyphs that surrounded the silver chains on the main doors of the ToEE. They eventualy discovered that the glyphs were actually the sigils of the mages who casted the "imprision avatar" ritual. One of the mages was still around - actually, he was a baelnorn protecting his families manor near the Elven Court.
He told the PC's all about the elves first struggle against the ToEE, and about the danger of awakening Moander without having found and re-assembled the golden skull, which was the only way to banish old moldy for good. He also mentioned to the PC's that the ancient elves never did learn exactly who (or whom) was living in Ironfang Keep. It allowed me to keep a bit of mystery going about that place.

This may be the best conversion of this module I've seen thus far. Possible connections to Ironfang Keep and the Witch King - brilliant!

First, I guess it would depend on wether or not you've also ran the original ToEE and where you placed that module.
When I ran ToEE for my campaign, I placed it in the Vast - using the Flooded Forest for the Moathouse, and placing the original temple in the Eartspur mountains east of Maksyr's Eye.
Since those locations had already been established in my campaign, I kept them for RtToEE, and aded the Fane as a structure in the southen Galeana Mountains, just to the NE of Ironfang Keep.

It's probably because it's an early 3E products and thus, not available on pdf. So it'out of print but still in demand. Simple economics means the price will rise.
However, I think your $50 price from Amazon is too high, and you should be able to find cheaper prices on e-Bay. |
