Posted - 17 Feb 2007 : 15:26:41 Any Idea what else the party will have? Taking a level or two in fighter is never a bad thing either. If you have access to Races of Stone there is some good stuff there too. Unearthed Arcana has Dwarven paragons which can be a cool way to flesh out a character.

Mine is
[b]Delzounblood 5th Lvl Dwarven Barbarian! Wanabe Battlerager!! Great Back Story!!! 20 years D&D exp.
----
Delzounblood,
Born of Delzoun Son of Delzoun. In Citadel Adbar.
His father, Delzoun had always told Delz that he was of good stock. The eveningfast stories were always of the old days, when the Kingdom of Delzoun was the richest and most powerful dwarven nation. and of how it fell to the foul Orcs and Goblinkin.
When Delz was a beardless youngling his father went on an expedition with a handful of other dwarves of our kin, to try and reclaim a Delzoun Kingdom outpost near The Fork they had heard about in the Underdark.
He never returned...
Delz mother, a cleric of Moradin took delz south away from the memmory of Delzoun to protect the wee lad. They were headed for family that Delz did not remember or new off. She fell to Orcs on the road and The beardless youngling, Delz ran off into the wilds of the savage north.
After several days running from the Orcs chasing Delz, They caught up to him, and had him cornered in a cleft in the mountains.
What happened next Delz can never quiet remember, Blood, Pain, The matalic taste of copper in his mouth and darkness....
Delz awoke to find himself covered in blood, alot was his own. He had no idea where he was or who he was. Pieces of gore and what looked like Orc's ripped to shreds lay all over & about him.
All he could remember was this, He was Blood of Delzoun, His father had told him so.
Delz traveled blindly, never knowing which way to go, but knowing he was alone. One night, I know not how long, Delz heared a screaming roar, He followed the sound keeping in the shadows and low lying scrub. There hidden between a boulder and scrub vegetation he witnessed a sight that made the young dwarf squirm.
A dwarf wearing the most outrageous armour was throwing himself head first, with no weapon into a pack of screaming orcs. Delz thought this was the last suicidal attempt to overcome hugh odds, the dwarf was out numbered 10 - 1 at least. The battle (I use that term lightly for it was more a blood bath) was over quickly, the dwarf picked himself up off the bloody mass that was all that was left of the orcs and spat out a tooth " Damn Blasted Orc.... I lost me a tooth " he said.
Delz seeing this display was overjoyed and shocked, here he had found a dwarf so he was not alone But what manner of dwarf!
Delz approached the strange and fierce dwarf, The dwarf spun around and nearly killed Delz out of reaction.
"By the stones, never jump up on a battlerager boy, by Moradin I cuda killed ye" it snarled.
Delz collapsed..
The Battlerager after seeing if Delz was not dying, he was still covered in blood. Tried to make sence of the young ones rambling, This being extremely hard for the axe idiot, The Battlerager took the near unconsious dwarfling back to Citadel Adbar. The following days are a bit of a blur for poor Delz with people trying to find out who he is and why he was out in the wilds alone.
A couple of tendays passed with Delz recovering from his many wounds, It came about that one of the Clerics tending to him recognised Delz and new his mother. A search party was dispatched to look for the fallen cleric, they returned days later carrying her body.
Delz was told what had happened, he still had no memory of the entire trip. He was also told his true name, Delzoun Blood of Delzoun. His name had been passed down through the generations of his family, Delz then decided that from that day forth he would be known as Delzounblood.
Time passed slowly for Delz, with no imeadiate family he was looked after by the clerics, Though he had a deep burning desire to revenge his mothers and fathers death. He decided to seek out the Battlerager who had saved his life, If he was to go a killin' he needed to know how to fight.....
Thus it started for the youngling, his Blooding in the wilds and his un-armed attack on the orcs trying to kill him, started this promising youngling on a suicidal path, To become a Battlerager most Deadly.......
The rest as they say is a bloody mess........
PM me for help to create your dwarf.
Delz

Posted - 25 Jan 2007 : 00:07:55 'Dwarves Deep' by Ed Greenwood has a bunch of great dwarven names for both males and females. There are also many clan names (and where they reside) in that great sourcebook.
Ah, barbarians... I once had a half-elf Uthgardt barbarian (Red Tiger) who fought with those claw bracers
Considering feats and stats... maybe you should think about the character and his/her background story. Generally, Weapon Focus is great (forget that Power Attack until 3rd level, at least ;) but Instantaneous Rage has also great potential.

Ok thanks for the tip. Ewww Gilli.... hehe. Ok does Gillies mean anything odd in any language? Well in a day or so I shall post my backstory.
Gillies? How is that pronounced? It doesn't mean anything in English, but it does look (and presumably, sounds) rather silly. But hey, if you like it, go for it.
As for "last names"...he doesn't have to have a last name, but you might find it fun to give him a descriptive epithet as a surname (like "Fatebearer" or something). |

Posted - 17 Jan 2007 : 09:19:53 Just looking at the rules-aspect. A barbarian must have a high strength and constitution. I prefer a high constitution... especially with the extra constitution a dwarf gives. That way you have a character who almost allways is the last man standing in a fight. Skills aren't very important for a barbarian. So they should represent your background. Feats... hmm, cleave and all those thing are a good choice |

Posted - 14 Jan 2007 : 22:15:03 I'd change the name, gilli in colloqial German describes the green stuff that comes out of your throat when you cough...
aside from that: think of a story, no character is born an adventurer...would be kinda scary if every adventurer is born fully dressed and stuff (and think of the pain mopthers would go through). Why is he an barbarian...where did he grow up to be so barbaric? Was he the only one to survive during an orc raid on his clan holdings?
After you've ansered those questions you can create the character with that in mind...as for rolling dice, ask your DM. Skills should be given in accordance to his background, as to a last name...since when do barbarians have last names? Conan never had one, or could you imagine him confiding to anyone that his name is Conan Smith...takes the barbaric sorta out of the affair |
