It looks like the more popularised Demon Lords all get updates from their entries in BoVD and the various DRAGON articles.

Ok, sorry for jumping on this thread so late, but I saw Fiendish Codex I at the store and I now want to know the following:
1. I do not own Fiend Folio, but I was planning to buy it someday: should I instead go for the Fiendish Codex books, or do these have NO overlap with Fiend Folio?
2. In the event that there is no overlap whatsoever, are the Fiendish Codex series appearing to hold water on their own?
Many thanks, noble sages!
It references some of the demons from FF but otherwise the Abyss book is mostly stand alone.
Hmm... that's too bad. I was hoping for a rewrite so I would not have to buy the Fiend Folio... as I understand all the monsters of the FF have been errated (I have the errata, which adjusts all the Damage Reductions and such, so it looks like a lot of work -- one could not use the monsters without the Errata...) |

I think some of their labels got mixed up. Or else they really changed a few creatures around. And with all due respect to the man, since he has been around D&D for years, why Thomas Baxa for the Orcus picture?
I've never been able to get into Baxa's style, even when I first encountered it in Shadowrun sourcebooks - it just seems a little too 'dirty' to my eye, like he keeps rubbing his hand across half-dry inks. Now, the Critchelow, Stokes and O'Connor images are more to my taste - simple, clear and expressive, the way illustrations ought to be.
Forgive me for being a latecomer to matters planar, but the image of an Armanite caught my eye and I did a little web-searching. Now, they're essentially Abyssal centauroid shock-cavalry, right? If that's so, why the heck is the creature listed as having a flying speed if it lacks wings in both art and fluff? Does it have some form of quickened spell or SLA that isn't explicitly listed in the fluff? (This is just a clarification more than anything else, because I think I just found another villain-fiend for the fic(s) I'm trying to write.... )
Back towards the main point: it was nice of them to have Yeenoghu as one of the samples, as he's one of the few key fiends I'm really interested in. The fluff on Pazunia is cool stuff, too - lots and lots of texture there.
All in all, I can't say FC1 will be an absolute 'must-buy' for me - but I'll certainly give it a good close look if I see it on my FLGS' shelves. |

Posted - 06 Jun 2006 : 03:44:32 Yes, people have discussed that on the WotC boards. I guess they really liked that picture. |

Posted - 06 Jun 2006 : 02:30:10 The labeling was definitely off, especially from the second page and onwards. I think the error was within one picture shifted left (or was it right?). I felt previous 3e depictions of Orcus looked more menacing. Overall I think the art in this book is mediocre compared to previous offerings from WotC (i.e. BoVD). Graz'zt looks cool though. |

I'm just happy there appear to be no prestige classes.
EDIT: 3 feat reprints from the BoVD, actually, which makes sense considering the content of that supplement and this one. I can spot other reprinted stuff, too.
no new prestige classes, unhuh . This is ok with me. I am almost overwelmed with what is available now I have almost all of the D&D sourcebook, some eberron, and all of the 3E FR sourcebbooks. information overload at times. However, I think I will pick up this tome regardless. |

Posted - 31 May 2006 : 19:04:20 Is there any old realmslore relating to the Demon Princes that are listed in the preview? |

Posted - 29 May 2006 : 16:05:46 Molydeus are statted up . . . whoo hoo . . . I loved those guys.
Dagon and Kostchtchie . . . haven't seen them in a while, and I'm a sucker for giant related stuff.
Black Cultists look like they may be written up as a PrC from the way the organization is laid out, but I could be wrong.
I know we all understand this, but I'm hoping for a sidebar on the "layers" section so we don't see a resurgence of people confused by the Demonweb pits being listed in the Abyss. |
