This was an amusing thing that happened on the DragonLance (SP) site. I post this here because of recent internet rumors about the supposed demise of FR, the date of 4th Edition D&D, and all sorts of other wild speculation.

The conversation goes something like this:

Clueless Poster (i.e. "the Carrier," infected with latest internet rumor): This is great everyone, WOTC and Sovereign Press have fixed their problems with each other, and now there will be more DragonLance minis.

Respondant #1: What problems? I haven't heard of any disputes.

Respondant #2: The reason there isn't more DL minis is because WOTC only puts out the Campaign setting, so they have a vested interest in supporting Eberron and Forgotten Realms, which they publish full lines for.

Clueless Poster: I heard from some sources that there were problems between them, and that is why only draconians, Soth, and Mina have been made.

Respondant #3: WOTC's minis have nothing to do with SP. WOTC owns all of the DL stuff and licenses it to SP. Even if there were problems, WOTC can put out whatever they want to.

Respondant #4: Where did you hear that SP and WOTC aren't getting along.

Cluless Poster (Defending the Faith): I talked to several hobby shop owners that told me that they heard from supliers and people like that that SP and WOTC were having disputes, but that they had finally patched them up.

(Editorial Comment: Its worth noting at this point that the FLGS Code of Honor demands that those who own or work at FLGS MUST at all time only pass along verified rumors that in no way reflect their own feelings toward a given game system, brand, or company, else the High Council of FLGS Lords will send the FLGS inquisition to their doors and torture them mercilessly. Or at least that what my own FLGS attendant tells me, right after he tells me that WOTC is sucking the life out of gamers, d20 is dead, and games where you play undead squirel plane hopping death metal characters are the next wave of what's in. Back to the paraphrased converstaion)

Vice President of Marketing for SP: A) there has been no dispute between SP and WOTC, we're getting along just fine. B) SP has nothing to do with the minis line from WOTC.

Clueless Poster: Well, whatever. Its glad to hear that the dispute is over and there may be more minis now.

Respondant #5: You do realize that was one of the company's VPs that just told you that there was no dispute, right?

Clueless Poster (Paragon of the Faith): Of course the company will tell you that there is no dispute. Its just like the government. They have to cover it up.

I am quite certain that Mr. Clueless Poster not only beleives that WOTC and SP were at war with one another, that WOTC only licenced out Ravenloft to White Wolf to force White Wolf to waste resources on another game with vampires, that the Forgotten Realms is ending soon with the cataclysmic deaths of various famous NPCs, and that 4th edition has been out since 2005, we just haven't gotten our copy of the books yet . . .

Thus are internet rumors are born.

And turn even the most open-minded people cynical at times.

Minis can lead one to the dark side of gaming...

There are no minis, only books.

No worries. I'm just glad to hear that the dispute is over.

Really? I've heard rumors about 4th edition.
Wait untill I tell people about this.
You know, the people at WotC have been denying 4th edition, what do you expect from them, it's just a cover up.

Now, since 4th edition was relieced in 2005, does that make my Races of Dragon obsoleate?
I feel riped off.

That reminds me of my favorite quote from Billy Madison:

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

I've been avoiding Enworld lately because of all the rediculous 4E speculation.

I generally try to stay away from that kind of threads, they make my IQ drop.

Yeah, it just reminds me of where internet rumors start.
