It seems that the 1E reprints sold enough to convince WoTC to reprint 2E core as well as hardback collections of the A and S modules.
Interestingly the Amazon link for the A modules says Slavelords A0-A4, am wondering if A0 is the SKR redo of the original A1-A4 modules?

I'd assume A0 is Scourge of the Slavelords. |

Do they actually need a staff anymore? I think one guy who knows how to run a copier should be able to handle everything now.
I'd rather have a brand-new reprint with mistakes than a battered, falling apart original with those same mistakes. And it's certainly better than no copy at all.
Personally, I wish they'd updated nothing but the copyright info. I would prefer that the books be published with the original covers, and the original content. |

Just curious. Seems that I recall a LOT of editorial problems in 1e/2e stuff - things that they now have the chance to (finally) correct. I would think it odd if they just left everything as-is (you know, stuff like spelling-errors, missing tables, badly worded or confusing rules, etc).
I wouldn't want them to change the content, but I would expect them to at least put a tiny bit of effort into the reprints.
Complete original copies. Nothing changed. |

Posted - 21 Feb 2013 : 04:23:22 Since 2E was the era I grew up in, I hold great fondness for it, and I still tend to think more in 2E terms than in 3.x/PF terms.
I'm quite looking forward to flipping thru the 2E PHB again, particularly for the artwork. As I've mentioned more than once before, there was a small pic on one page, of a guy and a girl on a flying carpet, that I found very captivating. Even thinking of the pic is enough to make me ponder the story the pic is telling -- it's never been told, that I know of, and was likely never written, but it's one of those pics that when I see it, I know it contains a story, and I want to know it. |

Even if you have no intention of playing 2e again, I'd recommend picking up the reprints. Not only for the completeness of having the rulebooks for most/all editions of the game, but because it's fun to read through the old rules and appreciate just how much the game has evolved over the decades.
In many ways, the older D&D rulebooks can almost function as "History of D&D" books. There are plenty of artefacts to discover! |

I had two or three... I replaced my worn copy with a new one and sold the prior copy. I did that at least once, maybe twice. |

How the heck did I miss this!
Off to the store for me tmr...man, I hope I get a copy!
It somehow didn't get as much airtime as the reprints of the PHB, DMG, and Monster Manual.
Now to set aside some money for the upcoming 2E reprints...
On the same topic... I'd love to see reprints of the 1E Oriental Adventures, and the Tome of Magic and Book of Artifacts from 2E. I had a signed copy of Dragonlance Adventures, too, so I'd not mind a reprint of that. Oh, and a reprint of the Forgotten Realms Adventures would be great, too -- that was the first book that really got me interested in the setting.
That's about it for me and reprints... Once upon a time, I had all of the 1E and 2E hardcovers, with the exception of the Kingdoms of Kalamar book. When I realized that it would be too expensive to replace my copy of the original (Cthulhu mythos!) DDG, I decided that I was not going to rebuild that part of my former gaming collection. |

The reprint of the 1E Unearthed Arcana is out today.
Another Yay! for me. This was one of my favourite books of the 1e-era. And it provided a lot of awkwardly awesome twists for my PLANESCAPE campaigns -- since that was the first setting I started using material from 1e UA to support. |

I had all of the 1E and 2E hardcover books, in very good condition. If it wasn't for a bolt of lightning, I'd still have them, and I'd have no interest in the reprints.
I know I could find used copies of those books, but it's been my experience that an online seller's definition of "very good" or "excellent" and my definition are sometimes light-years apart. I'll pay more for these, but I know I'm getting new material. |

Posted - 09 Oct 2012 : 02:28:52 This is wonderful news!
Though I was fortunate enough to start [very late] with the 1e books, it was actually the original 2e rulebooks [particularly the Monstrous Manual] that qualified D&D as a worthwhile hobby in my mind.
I'll definitely be picking these up, so I'd better start budgeting for them now. |

Posted - 08 Oct 2012 : 22:39:56 Interesting. This is the edition I started playing and holds the most nostalgia for me. However, my 2E core books are still in excellent condition. I have the black-border covered mid-90s printing, probably the last version before the advent of 3e. Depending on what they do with the covers (maybe a variation on the excellent 80s full painting covers), I may purchase a copy if only for nostalgia.
I held off getting the 1E reprint because it looked a bit too glitzy and gaudy for their own good. I haven't seen the 3E reprints in person yet, don't know if that's still present for that reprint. I still want to be able to flip through them without scratching the gold ink on the sides. There are other options for the book edge that could enhance the prestige look but still be more durable or wear resistant. A simple colored ink (red or blue maybe) would be striking and different. Or go with the staggered page edges, giving it an old tome look, very appropriate. |

Posted - 08 Oct 2012 : 21:50:18 That is so freaking awesome! The 2E PHB and DMG hold many fond memories for me, and getting copies in as good a condition as the ones I lost would be difficult. I'm excited that they're reprinting those!
I'll get the Slavelords book, too. Mine isn't in as good a shape as I could desire.
I do hope the prices aren't quite that premium at publishing time, though. |
