I'm starting a 4E campaign and there is one thing that bothered me yesterday when helping a friend create his character...

I have a question about preparing wizard spells in 4E. The PHB says:

Your spellbook also holds your daily and utility spells. You begin knowing two daily spells, one of which you can use on any given day. Each time you gain a level that lets you select a daily spell or a utility spell, choose two different daily spells or utility spells of that level to add to your book. After an extended rest, you can prepare a number of daily and utility spells according to what you can cast per day for your level. You can’t prepare the same spell twice.

Where can I find what the maximum number of spells a character can cast per day? Does it mean the number of Total Powers Known as described in table: Character Advancement on page 29?

Doesn't sound like the same game, then. I have and use all the 4E books except the Eberron stuff and am a DDI subscriber, maybe I just own/have access to more stuff? I played Basic, AD&D and 2E and bought pretty much everything there was to buy in those days too. Possibly our play styles are different, as well.

Cheers,

Thank you, you have answered my question Arivia.

I will admit I was a little lost picking a wizard as my first 4e character to play, but it worked out. Now if they can just merge in a way to be a not-half-bad striker on solo fights...

Pretty much. Everyone in 4e uses that table; it's just that the wizard gets more options on the whole and gets to pick a selection of them once a day.

So in effect, you choose two dailies to know, then pick one to prepare after each extended rest. The prepared one can be used like any other power. (Quite obviously the numbers change when you get additional dailies or utility spells.)
