Not entirely.
You see, each power doesn't do exactly the same amount of damage and they typically vary in effects. The powers also vary greatly with what class your playing. A 1st level Fighter Daily power (and mind you there are probably near 10 already) are all different depending on what type of weapon you wield. The weapon difference and the keywords associate with it would probably differ from say, a Paladin 1st level Daily which might have the radiant keyword and other non-destructive effects such as allowing a fellow PC a saving throw, add temporary hit points, or debuff a monster.

Again, not true. Since each role (defender, striker, controller, and leader) all differ from one another, they clearly aren't the same. Their "damage" types and amount vary greatly between the different roles. Within the same role (a wizard & invoker for example) it might be close to damage amount and type, but again the differences are the effects. I found that Invoker powers generally tend to do less damage than wizard powers of equal level but the Invoker powers usually provide a buff to the allies within the attack and the attack only hits the Invoker's enemies. Where as a wizard has to be more precise with his/her attacks so not to injure your friends.
See, I think a big problem for the "Old Guards" is that in previous editons there was a huge power-curve. As a 1st level wizard, you pretty much suck most of the day and have to soley rely on your comrades to keep your butt safe. But as you progress, you gain huge amounts of power and by the end (level 20+) you pretty much out-class everything save the Druid or Cleric. As a figher, well you can swing your sword really really fast by level 20....Yay, way to go and here's a gold star! Yep, power curves are fun for everyone!!!

As for Illusion spells, well now that the Arcane Power book has been out for a while, the Illusionist style of wizardry is available and I think it's pretty unique to say the Summoner wizard or War wizard styles. |

The only time I've ever been wrong was when that stampede of wild elephants and one baby zebra run though my house between 3:55 and 4:00 PM, on the Fourth of July, in a hailstorm... |

There just might be a significant assortment of illusion spells in Arcane Power. But then again, there might not be.
That is out already???
Man, I'm so out of touch with 4e!
Thanks Eytan.
Actually, its not out yet. But it is on its way next year. |

They're not there if you disbelieve them. |

Thanks all...that is exactly what I was looking for.
Too bad they didn't have anything beyond level 10 though.
One thing I had hoped were that Illusions could be a little bit more than the "shoot 'em up" spells already given...I was wrong.
I DO like the simpleness of the game for certain things; but I think the magic system in this new game is my least liked aspect. |

Anyone have a link? |

Posted - 18 Dec 2008 : 14:46:29 there was a dragon 364: class acts article ,that had an some illusionist type options. |

Posted - 18 Dec 2008 : 13:39:36 Well, PHB 2 is coming out in March, and Arcane Power is coming out in April. There has been speculation that illusion may be one of the schools of missing magic to be addressed.
Of course, there's also been a lot of speculation on how Illusion spells will work in the combat-ready 4th edition... |
