Hi everyone,
Although I used to play D&D years ago, I just recently started playing again. Unfortunately, our DM had to step out of the game for personal reasons and rather than let our group disband, I volunteered to take over. However, simply the sheer amount of info seems overwhelming atm. Am wondering if anyone has a good source for just the basic of the FR to help me get oriented, and hopefully feel not so over my head!
Any information, tactics, hints,etc that people would be willing to share would be very appreciated  Also, can anyone recommend some good pregen games for Level 9 chars, who specialize in demon hunting that I can adapt as necessary (I have some players who've probably read just about everything out there, so that's part of my challenge too. Also, where I can find good descriptions of physical descritpions for forests, and cities, and such. I can write my own but it is time consuming and right now, I think I need to focus on learning all of the mechanical rules rather than writing out descriptions of what the forest looks like that they are riding through.
Thanks for any help, encouragement, and advice that people can give me. I'm really looking for a group that I can bounce ideas off of and to help set those ideas better into the FR.

Its always good to have someone new pop into the keep. As far as pregenerated characters go, I really recommend picking up a copy of the NPC generator program from this site:
http://www.rpgattitude.com/npcdesigner.asp
Its not too difficult to generate PCs with it too, and once you have the basic structure down, its pretty easy to swap out feats for regional feats, etc. |

Here is my advice, which you're very free to ignore.
I have some players who've probably read just about everything out there, so that's part of my challenge too.
Then why not have your PC's encounter a young, very naive aristocrat. Alternatively, if one of the PC's is a cleric, why not have the PC's deity take the form of a helpless innocent who needs their help. This way, your NPC can ask some of the questions you're asking yourself.
If the terrain of FR is worrying you at the moment, why not take the PC's to a demiplane. A demon's demiplane might be ideal.
In either case, have the game take the path that helps you out. Either create an NPC who will pump the PC's for the information you need or take them to a setting where your own fertile imagination can challenge them whilst you catch up on your Realms Lore
As for recommended reading, I would suggest the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting. |
