Hi everyone...

Seems it's customary to introduce yourself in this forum, and having just registered, here goes...

I'm going by the name "oldskool" not out of some misplaced hip-hop sensibility, but because I've been an ardent D&D (although I still keep wanting to say AD&D) player for around 18 years or so. I've DMed and played everything from ancient "D&D" where "Elf" was a character class up to the newfangled 3.5 rules.

My favorite campaign setting is by far the Forgotten Realms. I'm kind of a fan of unusual races and classes... my players keep rolling their eyes while I subtly hint that aarakocra or thri-kreen characters are "really cool".

Some of you old school net-folks may remember the "Darklight's _____" spells from the old second-edition Great Net Spellbook... those are my doing. I've seen them spread all over the net, and since have grown as a DM past that somewhat unbalanced stage.

Currently I'm running a campaign in which the PCs have just caught wind of a joint plot between the yuan-ti and the clergy of Tiamat (among others, potentially), the tendrils of which they are just starting to uncover. They are still unaware of the danger they're really in, despite having detected a lot of scrying in their vicinity and midnight ophidian-squad attacks.

Anyway, enough about me...

Brrr, "yuan-ti" ye say? Dreadful creatures, I certainly hope they haven't followed thy path here to Candlekeep

I hope ye enjoy thy stay herein There are many tomes and scrolls of Realmslore within these halls to hopefully keep ye occupied for many tendays to come

Welcome to Candlekeep!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!

As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay!

Welcome oldskool. The reference above certainly would qualify as "ancient" to many gamers.

I hope you enjoy your stay at Candlekeep.

Hail & Well Met oldskool,

it's good to see "veterans" of D&D are still out there.
I also have been playing the game, in it's various forms, for over 22 years now and am glad to see that people of our age group still are playing. Although the pressures and demands of life make it a bit less easy to manage - so then all those still in school or uni, make the most of your time there!

Anyway, I think you'll find all the answers to your questions here regarding Realms Lore.
So then have fun purusing the scrolls

Be well
