Welcome to Faerūn Manachild!!

I've gamed in the Forgotten Realms for 16 years now, but I have tried Oerth through the Living Greyhawk campaign two years ago. Oerth is more gritty than Faerūn: the Realms are more "happy" somehow... in the Realms, the forces of evil are everywhere, yes, but the forces of good have a better success ratio than in Oerth. There are more Epic Level NPCs in Faerūn, several of those are good (this is perhaps why the good-evil scale is balanced, as opposed to Oerth where the nations are very divided, making it easy for Iuz and the Scarlet Brotherhood to achieve world-domination plans...)

In Faerūn, there are a lot of secret societies working for the cause of good, the most popular being the Harpers: these folks advise the rulers of each nation in matters of "international terrorism", which results in nations often working together against main threats to humanity. The only nation that could be categorized as completely evil (except for the dark elf cities and other communities of monsters, of course) is Thay, which is ruled by the Red Wizards. These wizards rule their society with an iron fist, enslaving the rest of the population to do their bidding. Slaves are their main import...

Hope you'll have lots of fun playing in the Realms!

Welcome to the Forums and to the Realms!

I find the Realms to be the richest setting, lorewise, out there, so it should be fun.

Thankyou, Alaundo your greetings are much appreceated, I have found Toril Accomodating indeed, but i had many great adventures of Oerik and the Lands of the Flanaess and it still holds a place in my heart , but faerun is my new adventuring ground and these days it appeals to me more.

Thanks again ;)

Well met

Welcome to Candlekeep, manachild. I hope you enjoy your stay here and find Toril much more accomodating than Oerth

Welcome to Candlekeep!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!

As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay!
