Posted - 07 Sep 2023 : 09:11:03 My name is Ray Chapel, more commonly known as Libertad on various tabletop gaming sites. Been a player for a little over twenty years now, and my first RPG was Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition. Still a fan of DnD, albeit as a 5th Edition player, and at the moment running a weekly Curse of Strahd game.
Back in the day I collected just about every Forgotten Realms sourcebook for 3rd Edition. Like many I skipped over 4th Edition in general, but with the advent of 5th I've been happy to see a renaissance of quality material on the DM's Guild (jury's still out for me on how to feel about the official adventures).
I knew about Candlekeep for some time, but never really gotten around to registering an account until now. Baldur's Gate 3 is partly to blame, and between it and Honor Among Thieves it's reignited an interest in Faerūn.
I look forward to perusing your archives and following current discourse about this most class of worlds! |

Posted - 23 Sep 2023 : 09:13:11 I realize this is very belated, but thank you for both for the warm welcome! I've often contemplated getting earlier editions of the main setting sourcebook if only to see how the world changed over time. I'm aware that even 3e (and likely 2e) brought on some major changes, so it'd be interesting to see the changes great and small.
It should come as little surprise that I passed over the Spellplague/4e era, and the Second Sundering/5e just leaves me confused. IIRC there isn't really much official support for the current Faerun beyond the Sword Coast...and Chult, so I'm at a loss for setting a campaign in the North or Dalelands unless I dive into the DM's Guild or homebrew. |

Posted - 11 Sep 2023 : 21:28:33 I think most of our scribes were introduced to D&D an the Realms on 3E. It might still be the most popular edition the real world, although the newer editions also have avid followers. You'll find a lot of fellows here who share your 3E interests.
Some of us are grognard dinosaurs who came from even Older Editions - written in archaic High Gygaxian - and we have learned to only watch the comings and goings (and passions and arguments) of newer D&D/FR editions with a sense of mild bemusement. |

Posted - 11 Sep 2023 : 05:10:08 Welcome to Candlekeep!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!
As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay! |
