Hi there. I am looking for a list of how many of each novel has sold worldwide.
A few people on another site are debating which novels have sold the most, and one of them claimed this site has a list somewhere. |

Ahh, don't think there's a place to get those kind of numbers. You can bet that if it didn't get reprinted from the Harper series, it didn't sell.
Side note, Nielsen Bookscan does the data collection for the book business, but as far as I know the information isn't public and it's not free either. |

I really couldn't care less about their argument(We all know Salvatore is the bestseller). I just wanted to see how individual novels did. Such as which of the Sembia series sold most(I'd put money on Shadow's witness), and some of the old Harper novels. |

I love Ed, Elaine, and Troy's work but I find it hard to believe that any of their best books comes close to the sales of Bob's books.
Note, I'd read all 4 of them before most of the other authors any day of the week, but lets face it, the Drizzt novels get on the NY Times Best Sellers list... what about the others?
I've been working at a Walden for a year now, let me give you a quick run down on what I've seen. Between Waldenbooks (mini-borders) and Dalton (mini-barnes&nobles), combined got 5 copies of Ed's Swords of Dragonfire. Waldenbooks has sold only 1 copy (1 of 2 copies we got.. I'm the one that bought the 1 copy btw.) Haven't checked on Dalton but I wouldn't be surprised if it were any different.
Promise of the Witchking (softcover), we got 30 copies and we've sold through about half of them.
Best of the Realms Elaine Cunningham, received 4 copies, sold 1.
Best of the Realms Ed Greenwood, received 5, sold 2. Sent 3 back.
One average, if it's not RA Salvatore, the store only gets at most 6 copies of any of the books in softcover.
BTW, Unclean and Sacrifice, our store only got 5 copies of each. Have 1 of Unclean and didn't sell all of Sacrifice, sent whatever was left back.
Drizzt's books believe it or not sell to people that don't play D&D and don't read the D&D novels. You can't say that about any of the other D&D novel authors.

Their basic quibble is over which FR author sells the most novels. One of them seems to be a Salvatore lover who claims Salvatore has sold millions and more than any other FR author, and the other, a Salvatore hater who thinks Greenwood and Cunningham and Denning have all sold more individually than Salvatore.
Personally, I wanted to see how individual novels did on the lists since one of them claimed this site has a list. But i guess he was full of it.

I think it will be really hard to get a number.
Indeed, some novels, but not all of them, have been translated in other languages, but not so many in each language !
How could you obtain a realistic number ?
EDIT : Maybe could I try to contact the French editor/translator to ask him if he could give me a number of sold items...
What would you think of it ?
Maybe you just want to know it about US sells... |

Now, we could run a poll on every book - have it vs. don't have it - to see how this community is doing. But that would probably result in "100% have it" for each and every book, judging from what I know about the people that hang out here!   |
