Hi all,

I’ve run into a bit of confusion in planning for a campaign tie in to the WotSQ and events from the recent novel Sacrifice of the Widow.

Now as I will be dealing with some material from the novel let me advise this first

So as if I recall correctly, near the end of the novel the followers of Selvetarm lost their power when he was slain. Now the campaign I am planning will feature some NPC villains that are following the PrC class Drow Judicator (Underdark pg 33-35).

My question is, how to handle these NPCs once the event in the novel comes to pass. (At this point I know we don’t know if Selvetarm is gone for good or not).

Should such NPCs of this PrC lose all their special abilities (as I am assuming clerics of Selvetarm will) and revert to simple fighters for those PrC levels. How about some of the abilities granted by proxy from Lolth (command spiders, spider servant, etc)

Should I treat this as a ‘paladin’s fall from grace’ or are there other mechanics at play?

How should the ‘spells per day’ be handled in the case of divine (clerics of Sevetarim) versus arcane (wizards/sorcerers), would both types be penalized or just those of the divine spell background?

I don’t have many of the core books beyond the main set, so if such issues have been covered in later books (players handbook II, DMs Guide II, etc) I welcome any reference or simply general advice from you all.

Something happened with these boards last night, as half the replies are not listed on the main General list ...

As with the War of the Spider Queen, I would suggest not using the events unless you - the DM - know what is going to happen. Who knows whether Lolth will simply adopt all Selvetargtin, whether Cavatina joins the ranks of gods (CN, preferably) after "killing" Selvetarm or what happens to the other deities. In August, Lady Penitent II is out and you may very well get your "official" answer then.

You know I liked that spider attack they did where the spiders ate magic.

Bladewind makes a good point, while I know a lot of the "rank and file" would loose their divine powers, the "true believers" are likely able to pick up the Servant of the Fallen and keep going. That doesn't mean that the organizations will hold together well, but its a "bridge" to keep at least some NPCs effective.

As drow judicators are part arcane casters I would leave their spellcasting unaffected. The clerics of the Selvatargtlin would be the most likely candidates for denial of their divine spells if you assume Selvatarm to be truely dead and not banished from the Demonweb Pits. You can always give the most adaptive or highest ranking priests the servant of the fallen feat to let them regain thier divine powers.
