Hale all. I have not posted in some time, [though I've checked in on a regular basis.] Been rather busy. Now, however, I have nothing but time.

In another recent scroll, though which it is escapes me, someone recently mentioned that there had once been the notion to put together a fan anthology, with contributions from interested scribes, but that the idea eventually got shelved. I was thinking: Perhaps we could revive this notion? Would there be interest? Is this a good idea? [Having read the discussion and links in the fanfic scroll in the novels section, I myself am not entirely sure where I stand on fanfic at this point.]

Any thoughts as to feasibility / interest / advisability?

I myself enjoy fan fiction, but only if it is very realms pertinent. If its not advancing realmslore somehow (whether it be showing how X realms based spells might be used, or delving into some history, or providing a background for a significant <or little known> realms NPC) it doesn't keep my attention, though, so I'd probably skip it. I do recall someone developing several stories about a Mulhorandi paladin from old empires and describing the principal's of maat in the story a few years back and I really liked that story.

Perhaps there could be a section in the Compendium to cater for this fan fiction?

Myself, and I speak only for myself, I'd prefer to keep them out of the Compendium because the Compendium has enough info/pages as it is and a short story would just make it even longer. Especially for those, and yeah there are still some of them, who don't have high speed connections.

I would tend to agree.

Also, add to that, the fact that many scribes have mentioned having difficulty reading the Compendium PDFs for long periods.

I wouldn't really want to alter the successful format we've established for the Candlekeep Compendium -- if we start incorporating lengthy works, like short stories for example, it may lead to a decrease of scribes both downloading and reading the PDFs themselves because of their length.

Aye, Kuje, the post you mention was indeed what I was referencing. I just couldn't remember exactly what the thread had been about.
Only three or four people were interested in submitting, you say? A shame; we certainly couldn't work with such small numbers.

Still, you never know. Perhaps the next couple of days will see a massive outpouring of interest from scribes eager to write fiction! And if not, well, there are plenty other projects. I do think this would be a nice idea, though, [as long as we are, as a sight, comfortable with fanfic.]

I don't recall the thread either. :)

But aye, maybe more people will be interested.....

As for the site being comfortable, I don't think that that would be that much of an issue since we have been putting on the Compendium for a year or so now and that is technically fanfic. Plus, the adventuring scroll has fanfic in it and has for years.

Well met

I'd certainly provide support and assistance if enough scribes wished to revive the Candlekeep Anthology Drop me an email/PM if you're interested.

I did have something in the works with regard to this Compendium Anthology for short stories. When the impetus on the project kind of fizzled out however, I developed my notes further and re-wrote some sections until it finally became a piece of background Realmslore for my FR.

If things started up again though, I could probably start writing something new.

I dunno, there was only maybe three or four of us that were interested in writing short stories. However, as I said in my other post, since I think you are referencing my post about the story collection, I still have a few stories that I started/made notes for.

I don't know if I'll have the time to finish them though.
