The Ring of Gray Flames is an old Raumathari ruin in Rashemen which is surrounded by spell wards.
Spell wards are "free-willed magical constructs that seem to be spells given life". They sound like living spells. The one thing that kinda makes me wonder is the free-willed part.. which a living spell is free willed, but its also more like a reaction or instinct rather that thought through.
That brings me to the part about spell sovereigns from the latest issue of Dragon. They have the ability to awaken living spells. I wonder if there's a ancient Raumathari spell sovereign there? Or maybe, a collection of vremyonni whose focus is recovering the ability to create spell constructs from ancient Raumathari lore. After all, they were supposedly master construct makers, and living spells are constructs.
Thirdly, what do you think is the grinding that can be heard working in the remaining 2 intact towers at the Ring of Gray Flames?

I guess there is a mention in the 3.5 City of Splendors book (somehow I missed it, so I'll have to go back through it again), but its expanded upon in the new UnderMountain book.

Interesting... is the link to Undermountain in the new module or in older lore?

Hm . . . there is a sort of tenuous link between what you mentioned and what I was trying to pick up on about living spells and spell sovereigns when I asked Eric about them in his thread. Given what you just pointed out, there is a link to living spells in UnderMountain . . . So it might be something like Imaskar (i.e. Halaster) to Raumathar to Rashemi. I like the idea that the Vremyonni would be the ones to have something to do with this as well, rather than the witches . . .
