I am not really up to date on how 3.? handles the weave, but in the Arcane Age it was far less an issue than current day Faerun. Lately it appears that the current patent holders of the game are trying to limit the powers of magic....rip the weave....I hold back comment on that but I do think that it is a bit.......short sighted.

On the other hand, having PCs find out what this material can do, and then having them find out that a particular campaign villain is looking to remake the substance, not knowing that it will no longer function, could be an interesting campaign focus. Plus it could be fun to run this with a Karsite (from Tome of Magic) as the villian.

I have thought about the issue for a long time and uses in the current realms is very limited. I would say these are some of the ways the material might be located in current day Faerun.

1) The residue of early experiments was dumped willy nilly in current day Anauroch desert and surrounding regions. Some of the local plantlife has absorbed some of the heavy magic though their root systems.....only Mystra knows what plants are affected and how, but some have gained a rudimentary sentinence.

2) A small cash has remained in a pile of rubble of either type of the material. There could be wedges, gas spheres (metal ones), or even potions. Now let those Karsite's drink a little of this and watch the Simbul or old El make an appearance.

3) Among the sands of the Anauroch there are small deposites of sand that have minute (and therby more playable) density of the material in the sand deposites. Should someone glean the essences from the sand they could be a force....as long as the material lasted.

There are lots more....anyone have any ideas on how to make current day deposites of the material more useable????

One thing to consider is that alchemical/chemical reactions that affect magic would also be affected by the Weave. Just as Mystra altered the Weave to make sure that 12th level spells could no longer be cast, so she could alter how magic interacts with alchemical processes to make sure that the compound, from the point of Mystra's denial, would no longer work the same way.

On the other hand, having PCs find out what this material can do, and then having them find out that a particular campaign villain is looking to remake the substance, not knowing that it will no longer function, could be an interesting campaign focus. Plus it could be fun to run this with a Karsite (from Tome of Magic) as the villian.
