Posted - 13 Feb 2007 : 11:05:12 Just bought this tome for myself a couple of days ago and I really like all the details about Faustian Pacts and the elevation of Glasya to Malbolge.
However, some parts of the codex made me stop and think, namely the bit about Nupperibos being demoted devils.
Now, older sources, such as 'Faces of Evil: The Fiends' state that Nupperibo's are the young form of the ancient Baatorians, whereas FC2 states that they are demoted devils. I assumed that the Nupperibos were largely the baatorian young but could also be formed by a devil being demoted in power. - Anyone else have any opinions about this? Are the Ancient Baatorians retconned out of existence now?
The Pact Primeval - For my campaign, I have simply removed any references of Heironius and St. Cuthbert and any other Greyhawk Deities and replaced them with the FR equivalents - Tyr replaces Heironius and Helm replaces St. Cuthbert.
Im also assuming that anything not directly retconned in FC2 (and even FC1 for that matter) that is detailed in either the 2ed Planescape Supplements or the Book of Vile Darkness is still canon for 3.5. Things such as Darkness that Hungers and Talos the Triple Iron Golem are still in their respective layers. - Has there been anything contrary detailed about them? |

Posted - 15 Feb 2007 : 09:47:35 Well, im still going to make full use of Faces of Evil and Hellbound: The Blood War in any FR campaigns I run, the amount of lore in those two tomes is incredible.
So until a FR 3.5 sourcebook/novel comes along and sates theres no Ancient Baatorians and Talos the Golem and Darkness that Hungers are still where they are according to BoVD, or the two previous tomes.
As for the creation myths for FR. Does anyone have thier own take/spin on how they were formed? |

Posted - 13 Feb 2007 : 16:45:49 For what its worth, the Pact Primeval isn't the best for Greyhawk either. Granted, its listed as a myth that may or may not be based on fact, but it mentions, at the begining of time, gods like Heironeous and Saint Cuthbert, both of whom, I'm fairly certain, were not "first generation" gods. Heironeous has a myth that mentions his mother granting him impervious skin not unlike Achilles in Greek mythology, and his brother is Hextor, and given that what little is known of him mentions his birth and his mother, I'd say he wasn't around with the other "primeval" deities. Also, I think Cuthbert was a mortal at one point in time before ascending to divinity, but my Greyhawk is a bit rusty these days. |

Hmm, that never occured to me. To be honest, im surprised they didnt append some creations myths relevant to Eberron and Forgotten Realms into FC2. Even something as simple as a paragraph or two would at least give us something to work with. I do hope that if they do a codex on the Yugoloths they include more FR stuff, such as the locations of the three towers etc.
Is there any more info about the formation of Hell/the Abyss in FR? or is it completely unknown as of yet?
Post 3ed theres nothing other than Elminster in Hell there are some old Dragon articles by Ed which detail the 9 hells but they where written for 2ed when the FR was part of the great wheel
Im in the process of writing a review/conversion document for Tyrants of the Nine Hells for Candlekeep (similar to the Draconomicon article I wrote for candlekeep several years ago) |

Posted - 13 Feb 2007 : 11:13:49 The Pact Primeval doesnt really work in the Realm as the big ethical war that existed at the begining of time was between Selune and Shar, Light vs Darkness (which I guess you could say was good vs evil) there was never a big divine war on the Law vs Chaos axis
