Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 02:16:48 I was thinking it might be interesting to see a Trade War begin between these two powers. They're both wizard based networks of economic power. The only difference is one is managed by Fzoul now and is the economic arm of the Church of Bane while the other deals only in magic as opposed to many things like the Zhents.
How do you think it would end? |

The Zhents, resenting Selfaril's marriage to a Thayan, set about to discredit her in the High Blade's eyes. They hope to plant evidence that Dmitra Flass plans to launch a takeover of the city after she gives birth to Selfaril's child. Whether this plot exists or not, and whether Flass even wishes to become pregnant, doesn't matter to the Moonstars. They want the PCs to do all they can to see that the Zhent plan to discredit Flass works to perfection. Then, the Moonstars can concentrate on undermining the Zhentish (and Banite) power bases in the city by exploiting the tension between Chembryl's Banite Zhents and the old-school Zhents who don't worship the Tyrant Reborn.
Yeah, no alliance in the future there.

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 13:29:10 Erg, that info appears in FRCS, UAE, and MoM, I believe. You may also find a reference to this relationship in this online article from WotC http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/pg/20040107a |

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 13:24:24 To be fair, Fzoul is a very good administrator. He's managed to reverse all the losses they've accumulated over the past 10 years under Cyric's madness and Xvim's purges of Bane worshippers (under Fzoul oddly enough)
Plus, I doubt Fzoul has been doing anything to torment the Wizards under Manshoon's control.
The Zhents haven't been as strong since the original Box set. Especially since Fzoul just broke the pact with Khelben. |

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 13:16:52 I think there's to many unknown factors in such a conflict to say anything for sure, but I would think that the most aggressive group would loose as it tried to muscle in on the others territory and in addition start to make the other power-groups and inhabitants of the realms nervous. If I had to say one though,I would say the Black Network would draw the longest straw.
As for the Tharchioness marrying the High Blade of Mulmaster, this was mentioned in the 2ed. campaign setting and the novel The Mage in the Iron Mask. There's others to, but I don't have my books in front of me right now. |

Erg,
Tharchioness (and Zulkir of Illusion) Dmitra Flass has married the ruler of Mulmaster (who is in fact a Zhent operative).
Where did you obtain that knowledge from? Any sourcebook ref.? M9oM or even FRCS? |

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 11:07:22 I´d place my money on Thay. The Zhentarim are not what they used to be. Under Fzoul they are devolving into little more than henchmen for Bane´s church. |

As to the FRCS 3.x Semmemon left the organization. So i would not include him in this list anymore (even though he might have some influence on single individuals in the Keep).
As to theWar - I see a possibility for such a war indeed as the Zhents oppose anyone that interferes with their possibile gains. So sooner or later the Zhents and Reds will clash head to head. As to who will win - unpredictable! |

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 03:36:08 Yeah a frightening thought is the two just team up with Thay getting the money and no longer having to worry about merchantalism.

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 03:27:57 I forgot about Mulmaster! A mole might work even better there, maybe as a member of the city's tax collector's, feeding each side misinformation about the other. |

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 03:25:40 I have thought about this myself. I wouldn't put it past the Harpers to 'poke a little here' and 'nudge a little there' to get these two groups at each others throats. The best way to handle your enemies is to sick them on each other. I think the Harpers are much better at this sort of tactic then direct confrontation. They can even play up the 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' ploy, giving information to both sides while acting like they themselves are a third trading faction. Given the natural suspicious nature of both parties this would have to be done delicately and would require a previously set up front, perhaps in the westgate area. This would most likely require a Harper agent who has been DEEP undercover in the Night Masks for several years. If played right it could set off a 3-way (trade) war, something I'm sure the Harpers would be willing to sacrifice their mole for (being altruistic and all). |

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 02:53:20 Well Manshoon set it up that way.
Fzoul made it all into the Bane version.

Posted - 10 Jan 2007 : 02:48:15 I know by now I sound like a nitpicker, but I wouldn't say the Black Network is "wizard-based" the way the Red Wizards are. |
