Bright clothes for an assassin... well, not everytime so. An unseen ennemy is sometimes more feared than an obvious one. Try to make him like every super hero, two lives, one during the day where he is a cool guy, and during the night. Make him attack their relatives, friends, family, ... they'll hate him and fear him. Make your player feel that there is someone lurking in the shadows waiting for an error
I didn't see that it was for a pc. I thought you wanted him as a npc. Well, if they fear you, they won't trust you, and if they fear you, you'll get killed or abandonned, IMHO bad idea |

Ask yourself this, Draith:
If you knew someone you were afraid of would you associate regularly with them and trust them with your life?
Why do you assume the other PC's would choose to accept a party member they fear?
You should be asking how to make NPCs fear your character so you can become a valued party member. |

When I was DM'ing back in the 1e days, a friend of mine played an assassin. He played him like a regular guy, but when he was hired to kill someone, he was all business. John Cusack's character in "Grosse Point Blank" is a good model for this.
I use him (my friend's old chacter, not John Cusack) as an NPC a lot. I play him the same way. If you want a sample and you want to bother, read the Haiko posts in the Inn's Main Room.
In a game, acting like Hannibal Lecter only gets you laughed at. |

Posted - 21 Apr 2003 : 17:06:05 Draith you need to remember, the other PC's Probably WON'T be in fear of your character. They are building characters as well, remember, and just may have something up their sleeve to thwart you. Unfortunately due to the fighter's poor skill selection, you probably have to start out as a rogue, which I am afraid does not really put you on the fighter's fear factor list.
Now if you take the longer path, as a fighter. Well you will be QUITE the assassin then, though maybe not as quiet.

Posted - 21 Apr 2003 : 04:40:33 Well, I've never played an Assasin, but I am a big fan of non-stereotypical actions. Have your character act in ways contrary to what is usually thought of as evil. I'm not talking Chaotic (though that would help you). I'm thinking of the humorous saying, "Love your enemies -- it'll make them crazy trying to figure out what you're up to."
One great tip comes from the infamous Evil Overlord List, also known as "The Top 100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord." It's a list of what to do in order to avoid cliche and therefore being overthrown. It's quite amusing, really -- and there's a lot more than merely 100.
Anyway, #29 reads: "I will dress in bright and cheery colors, and so throw my enemies into confusion."
Getting any ideas yet? |
