I am having a debate with my friends between devils and space marines and we both are wondering just how high fire immunity went in FR? Can a devil immune to fire take on any level of heat and flame, or is it limited? I was hoping that perhaps Mr. Greenwood could clear this up, or if he had. Also, does fire damage cover lasers and plasma weapons?

EDIT: I guess what I am trying to say is (as Arkhaedun said); "in the Realms, has there ever been an instance of fire so hot that it can damage fire immune creatures?"

Thanks. ^^

I'll see if that will convince them. I much thank you for the assistance.

Though I suppose "in the Realms, has there ever been an instance of fire so hot that it can damage fire immune creatures" is a better way to put it. I mean I know hellfire can harm them, but that isn't really fire.

First off, here is the definition of Fire Immunity from the SRD:

Fire Immunity

A creature with fire immunity never takes fire damage. It has vulnerability to cold, which means it takes half again as much (+50%) damage as normal from cold, regardless of whether a saving throw is allowed, or if the save is a success or failure.

Sean K Reynolds has discussed this a bit on his site. As stated in the rules, noting with fire immunity will ever take damage, no matter what. SKR mentioned that he would have rather gone with Fire Immunity providing 100 hp resistance, but others wanted to go with the fully immunity description for simplicity's sake.

Also, while it is not a core D&D book, according to the Malhavoc Press book When the Sky Falls plasma does 1/2 fire damage and 1/2 electrical damage. In general, anything that does heat damage in D&D is considered "fire."

Now, in general, this question is a bit general. Given that its a rules question, and not specifically about the Realms, this isn't so much an Ed question as a general D&D designer question. On the other hand, if the question were more along the lines of, "in the Realms, has there ever been an instance of fire so hot that it can damage fire immune creatures," Ed might be able to provide some suitable Realmslore.
