A thought struck me as I was looking over my FR novel covers the other day. If the Waymeet had access to literally thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of portals, what will happen now that it is destroyed?
How many portals still work? I know that portals have been made by other people, not just the elves, but the Waymeet was making lots more portals since its creation and there is a good chance that people have been using portals without realising that they were linked via the Waymeet.
Could you imagine using this in an adventure - the PCs are trying to get to a portal they know the activation for, but when they arrive - no portal.
I did a quick search and couldn't find any discussion on this as of yet, but if there has been, please point me in that direction. |

Given that the Waymeet was an ancient elven construct, I would guess that newer elven gates might not access this at all, and as such would not be affected. On the other hand, it gives you a good excuse to get rid of any portals that you might not particularly want to keep around.
I would also assume that any really useful gates/portals that the elves wanted to access could be rebuilt fairly quickly, given the number of wizards that the various elven realms have at their disposal. |

I don't think there is a canon answer to this question yet. I would imagine that it would indeed have some serious implications. However, there should still be many, many more portals across fearun, that were not supported by the Waymeet.
