Sages,
I was pondering the tome The Wyvern's Spur. Namely the part of the story where the Wyvern cuts off her spur and gives it to Giogi's father (cannot remember his name). The spur has fairly powerful magic attached to it. As I recall wyvern's are not intelligent enough to be mages or sorcerers of any type, so, how did the spur become enchanted? (silly line of thought I know...)As a DM I was thinking of how I could explain this in game terms; here is what I think... Any monster with the "magical" type can, once in its life, use a part of its magic to bestow a curse or blessing on someone or something that it chooses. As the creature is magic, tied to the weave, it can give away a portion of its magic/essence/soul/being for a specific purpose it chooses... Anyway, random thoughts, maybe this has already been spelled out in game terms, or maybe it is just ridiculous, it gets a little boring running the same types of tests over and over again, so I have time to ponder goofy things... |

Clearly this Wyvern was exceptional in addition to Wooly's reply other options can include a mage polymorthed, a rare wise Wyvern that seeks a treaty or has more elaborate plans.
Clearly very Inteligent at least double normal (to have one second language) compared to its average kin. And so on. |

I'd say the most likely explanation was that the wyvern was an avatar of Selūne. There's nothing to back that up, really, except for the fact that she's always looked out for the Wyvernspur family, and it does kinda make one Wyvernspur into a were-wyvern -- and Selūne covers the good weres.
Or it could have been a powerful cleric of Selūne, I suppose... |
