You just have to love the Mongrel Men of the High Forest. There's a little bit in there for fans of all the above races.
Does nobody feel in the least bit sorry for the Realms' underdogs? - There's probably a bit of those in these people too.

That is an excellent point...especially since 8 INT is really just below average, it doesn't need to mean "dumb as a rock".

Thri-kreen(also fav monster :D), basically have the same view of elves that elves have of other races. This tends to annoy the 'arrogant elf' players, especially when they never know when you might decide to eat them :D

I'm looking forward to bringing several monster races to life: ogres, hobgoblins, goblins, kobolds, and hill giants. It's been fun to research all the nuances and complexities of their respective societies, the gods they worship, and so forth. In Amn's Esmeltaran they'll all be interacting as co-occupiers of the city, with the human population enslaved there. This is fresh material, so I'm particularly excited about that.

Otherwise, I guess my preference is for humans and half-elves. I like all the races, but those are most often my choices at character creation.

Elves Because they live the longest(I think)

I'd be nice to see some serioud interracial contrasting like 2nd ed used to do with Mountain, Hlll, and Sundered. i miss those days.

The dwarves that appear in the Watercourse Trilogy are specifically mentioned as being gold dwarves from the Great Rift, and Raryn from the Year of Rogue Dragons novels was an arctic dwarf, so they have had a bit more mentions lately.

Whew! So relieved.

I think they make cool protagonists, too. Struggling as much against the villains as the darkness within -- using powers they really shouldn't in order to conquer the very evil that gives them strength.

Ala Magadon, from the Erevis Cale series.

(Who, to be fair, isn't *really* a tiefling, I don't believe -- I think it's a "major fiendish bloodline" or something of the sort. But the idea's there.)

I actually grew to love tieflings more after playing Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark, because one possible henchman is a handsome tiefling that female PCs can romance. But overall, I much prefer the "regular" races of the Realms (and even the tiefling in the game wasn't native to Toril).

i must chime in on Reefy ... Aquatic elves is great (bad i can't find any DM daring to make a whole campaign where the players is Aquatic elves, Merfolk and Tritons (and what you otherwise find in the ocean)

Drow.. Um Drow.... and then, Drow. But a close fifth, is Dwarves. then Genasi

Biological Diversity - really all of the races are unique in creation and character and I like all of them for they combined make up the feel that is the Realms. However, to be honest - I favor one race over all the rest and that is the halfling race. Luiren rocks as do all of its inhabitants and of course all those halflings outside of Luiren as well.

Uthgardt Tribesmen

They're kind of like dwarven humans...
Zimme Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 01:39:28
Dwarves! first and foremost, then as a distant number two Drow and the humans.
Swordcoast Wanderer Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 01:15:51
I'd have to say humans though I'm quite fond of dwarves. Personally though I'm really tired of elves they always strike me as arrogant and condescending. Also many people have a strange fixation on them.
Reefy Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 00:51:28
Elves in general, I've been quite attracted aqautic elves of late.
Penknight Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 00:36:37
Elves for me, and their antithesis the fey'ri (as my favorite evil race), though many might say that the drow are the opposite instead.
