Well met longbeards,
I have a question regarding certain deities that have rangers as followers, but are not listed on the sidebar on page 90 of Faiths and Pantheons; Complete Nature Deity List.
Specifically I'm wondering why Shaundakul and Marthammor Duin are not listed. Shaundakul sponsors ranger companies, Knights of the Shadow Sword per the Champions of Valor, so IMO it makes sense for him to grant spells to those who are cleansing Myth Drannor in his name.
Marthammor Duin, being the dwarven deity of wanderers, and being one of two dwarven deities having rangers listed among their followers, the other being Thard Harr who is listed on the Nature Deity list, would seem to be of the same ilk to me. Granted dwarven rangers may not be as common as elven or human ones, but we're still out there.
I just wanted to get some opinions on this, and of course if there is a more updated Nature Deity list that includes the two above mentioned Deities, please point this ranger in that direction.
I appreciate all the help, thanks.

Honestly, you can easily make up a reason for a ranger to worhsip almost any deity.

<pulls deity out of random pile>

Helm. Okay... um... he's the god of guardians and this ranger is the first and maybe only line of defense for a small village, so rather than spend his prayers to a more nature type deity, he worships Helm because he feels a deep need to protect his fellow man from the dangers of the wilds rather than vice versa.

See... not impossible. Improbable mayhap, but I'd allow it.

In our game Marthammor Duin is the primary deity for Dwarven Rangers and Cavers.

IIRC there wasn't really a Dwaven Ranger option in 2E.

I appreciate the response and direction, Faraer.

Have a look at this thread.

Short answer: That list is a general guide, probably put together hastily to meet a deadline; the idea that rangers worship only 'nature deities' is a generalization, and no such list will ever be absolute.

That said, while Shaundakul is regularly served by rangers, to my understanding, rangers aren't part of dwarven culture. Which doesn't mean rangers can't serve Marthammor, or -- more likely -- that dwarven wanderers, followers of Marthammor, might not be modelled with the ranger class.
