Well met
Alas, my poor old machine won't run the expansion, as much as i'd love to give it a whirl (being a Tau loyalist)

Posted - 16 Oct 2006 : 19:30:25 Hmmm, a sourcebook or adventure book on the Western Heartlands or the Old Empires would have been better, but I find some titles that interest me:
The revised Freeport book (from Green Ronin) Cityscape Dungeonscape Expedition to Castle Ravenloft Dungeons Tiles II Fantastic Locations: Frostfell Rift Some Blood War minis Maybe the new batch of modules.
Still, its gonna be 6 long months. I'm sooooo exited about a Cormyr module. |

That may be enough for me to consider it as a "maybe if I have a few spare gold pieces one month" purchase. But I doubt I'll be going out of my way for this book.

Posted - 16 Oct 2006 : 16:00:50 Aside from the original core books and some others I got on ebay for little money (comparatively) I never really bothered with the core stuff...too many PrC to my liking, same goes with most races books etc.
Is FR not selling that well? None of us know the numbers. Or maybe Wizards's latest concepts all didn't add up to what they had expected, with people complaining about MotM etc. Maybe they have to go back to their drawing boards to make things better.
It's ironic that most of us still use so much 2nd edition stuff since it does have the info we do need on areas.
Or maybe we see the beginning of the end of FR with Wizards... |

Anyone have any details on this?

Cityscape I'll certainly get this one as i'm always drawn to city based products.
Fiendish Codex II Without a doubt, this is a definate. Volume I was splendid and i'm very excited about this tome.
Complete Scoundrel Alas this has no appeal. I've had more than enough of the "Complete" series and feel that WotC are stretching it a little. 2006 is actually the first year that i've opted not to purchase a number of core D&D tomes (starting with Dragon Magic and Complete Mage).
Dungeonscapes Aye, again this appeals to me so i'll certainly pick it up.
Magic Item Compendium Although i've got more than enough sources for magic items, i'll likely get this to go with the Spell Compendium
Expedition to the Demonweb Pits The nostalgic part of me will force me to get this. I just received the Castle Ravenloft tome this morn so if it comes close to this then i'll be quite happy.
Drow of the Underdark If it follows the quality of Draconomicon then that will be fine with me. I'm certainly not happy about the title and wish WotC wouldn't recycle titles this way. For me, Drow are for the Realms so i'd rather this weren't a core book (although WotC are wise to do so).
Complete Champion Not interested in the slightest, unfortunately.
I'm not 100% happy in WotC's direction with core rulebooks and as I mentioned earlier, I feel they're struggling with the "Complete" series, which appears to be putting a few people off by the sound of things.
Still, it frees up some cash to satisfy my Warhammer habit |

Posted - 16 Oct 2006 : 09:06:34 Seems like I can focus my spending on literature and vinyl in the nearest future; the only thing from Dargoths list that will find its way into this house is Medieval Total War 2, and of course the Knights of Myth Drannor book when it comes in paperback. |

Cityscape Maybe. Fleshing out and populating cities is not a strong point with me. If this book will help with that, I will likely get it -- though on the cheap.
Fiendish Codex II This is the only definite on the list. Stuff on the Lower Planes and its inhabitants is always good. (I will use the opportunity to confess that I still prefer the names tanar'ri and baatezu; they sound better and are easier for me to keep straight than demons and devils).
Complete Scoundrel I might get it just so I can stay on top of the flood of PrCs... It's an on the cheap purchase, though.
Dungeonscapes See Cityscapes.
Magic Item Compendium I'll prolly get this one; I love magical items.
Expedition to the Demonweb Pits I see no point to this one.
Drow of the Underdark I'm happy with the 2E FR-specific tome.
Complete Champion Ditto for Complete Scoundrel.
I might use the money saved on FR goodness to pick up Ptolus. I've been wanting that one.
That pretty much sums it up for me too, except I probably will not get the MI Compend |

Posted - 15 Oct 2006 : 19:14:17 As with all the D&D 'subject' books, the question for me is still 'Why do I particularly care what these authors have to say about this?' Ari Marmell and C.A. Suleiman's insights may be good, but I suspect Italo Calvino and Peter Ackroyd's are better. But Robin Laws is a legitimately brilliant man, so I'd like to see how he treats the Hells. |

Posted - 15 Oct 2006 : 14:37:24 As for NwN's2, I'm not going to get it because the specs for it are a bit to powerful for my computer and I barely have the min requirements, so I'm hesitant to try to run it on this computer.
I'll be getting the next fiend book and probably city scapes, otherwise. Not sure. |

Fiendish Codex II; Almost definately. I liked the Fiendish Codex one (though it left me with some questions), and I'm hoping that some of Ed's hellish goodness(?) made it into the book.
As am I.
I'm not really sure what I'm expecting, but I'd like to think that some of Ed's work from the original Nine Hells articles in DRAGON receives some kind of nod in this book.

Posted - 14 Oct 2006 : 21:40:19 Not a great deal, as I'm trying to finish paying off an overdraft and save money for a Masters next year. Of the upcoming books, Cityscape certainly attracts my interest as I'm giving DMing in Waterdeep a spin and this is my first real foray into the City of Splendours. Other than that, I've got plenty of other books to catch up on before I buy any more (or so I tell myself), and I'll try to keep the CD buying habit in check. |

Posted - 14 Oct 2006 : 18:44:26 Okay, to be a little more in depth in what is coming up until we have more FR goodness:
Cityscape; Maybe. I've liked the other terrain books, so this one may be interesting, have to see some sample of where they are going with it.
Fiendish Codex II; Almost definately. I liked the Fiendish Codex one (though it left me with some questions), and I'm hoping that some of Ed's hellish goodness(?) made it into the book.
Complete Scoundrel; Doesn't sound likely. I'll keep an open mind and see whats in it, but it doesn't grab me at this point, and without a strong concept, I don't know if I will care about it much.
Dungeonscapes; Less likely than Cityscapes, again, unless I hear about some really cool concept that might come up in this book.
Magic Item Compendium; I wasn't thrilled with the "genericized" spells in the Spell Compendium, and if there is too much of that here, I'll be a little upset (giving the original source for the spells in the entry instead of on a page in the front would have been more useful, for my way of thinking). On the other hand, since Eytan has something to do with it, I trust that he is a pretty good designer, and will definately have to give it a look.
Expedition to the Demonweb Pits; Maybe, but I don't know. It could be interesting, and I'll keep an eye on what the adventure entails.
Drow of the Underdar; Most likely. If its like the other "expanded monster" books I have been pretty happy with them, especially if they focus on drow as adversaries.
Complete Champion; Probably, since I like more options for divine casters and the like.
This will also give me a bit of a chance to get caught up on Sovereign Press DragonLance releases, even though I swore off of DragonLance a few months back (it seems I can never really fully leave DL or FR behind for too long). |

Well, to be fair . . . the Eberron books are actually for me, since I'm the one who'll be running an EB campaign once Sage's DL game is completed. He wants to have a break from DMing non-FR games for a while. And, since I have such a love for the EB setting, it was my decision to purchase all the EB gamebooks and lay the foundation for a future campaign set in Khorvaire - - which will actually be my first DM experience.
