Hi all

Some of you may have read my recent article on Impiltur in Dragon #346. I'm just wondering what regions/nations (understanding of course that there a space constraints involved when showcasing articles in Dragon) you would like to see tackled next, if Dragon was considering publishing further articles along the same lines.

There are a few places that I am really interested in that haven't been touched upon in 3rd Edition.

Damara - I know very little about this area, as I still have to read the 2e Bloodstone Lands. (As an aside, I only really started learning about the Forgotten Realms after 3rd Edition. So most of Faerun is still new to me.)

Amn - I love the idea of this extremely cosmopolitan, greedy, and slightly paranoid realm of merchants. Plus, the computer game Baldur's Gate II got me pretty intrigued.

The Ten Towns, and the other cities of the Savage Frontier if you get a chance (like Luskan - well I'm not really sure if that qualifies but Luskan is pretty interesting nonetheless).

And finally, Westgate. I'd love to learn more about the Night Masks and the rage of Garagos during the Time of Troubles.

Hats off to you Mr. Krashos for giving us these in-depth looks at the Realms! Your Impiltur article rocked.

Which reminds me, I'd like to learn more about Narfell, especially its ancient history (such as the construction of the Citadel of Conjurers and the conjuration of Eltab). The mention of the Citadel in your article really sparked my imagination.

For those requesting material on broad swathes of territory (ala Chionthar Valley or Lake of Steam etc), it's unlikely that a Dragon Magazine article would do them justice.

What I'm really looking for is suggestions re countries or discreet geographical regions (like the Stonelands or the Ride etc.). Anything else is probably too large in scope.

Heck, I'd like to see something on the Stonelands or the Ride (but please include Lupins*). For instance, I've read several times about the crown of Cormyr's desire to have people settle the Stonelands -- considering that the whole place sounds like an open gravel pit, just what would they live on?

Handling a Dale or three would be nice too.

Anything about the humanoids, orcs, hobgoblins, goblins, ect, they always seem to get short shrift in FR products. They really just fill the brainless evil fodder stereotype and are far to often dominated by evil humans or drow or similar creatures. I'd love to see an article dealing with the various humanoids tribes, similar to the old Dragon article about elven tribes outside of Evermeet and Evereska?

I'd also _love_ to see Maztica updated. That would rock. :)

Oh, and a Kara-tur update is desperately needed. :)

1. Sossal
2. The Thar
3. The Ride
4. The Tortured Lands
5. Hartsvale
6. Lantan
7. Candlekeep
8. Erlkazar
9. Ten towns area (up to Hundlestone)
10. Veldorn
Raelan Posted - 30 Sep 2006 : 22:10:56
Sossal, Murghom, and Semphar. The info on these lands is almost nonexistant.

Indeed I am, and keep 'em coming if the Paizo folks let you

I hope this article cover the southern half of the lands between Kara-Kur and Faerun. If not, well, there's my next request.
I'd love to see articles that cover all the way down to Zakhara.
GothicDan Posted - 30 Sep 2006 : 15:57:41
Nathlekh and the Gulthmere Forest!
TomCosta Posted - 30 Sep 2006 : 15:36:14
I'd vote for the Dragon Coast and the former Neideheim area in the no-man's area between the W. Heartlands, Amn, and Dragon Coast.
Kajehase Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 16:48:49
I'd actually like to know more about the hobgoblin kingdom(s) in the mountains next to Impiltur (somebody help me with the name, I'm very far away (at least 400 meters) from my FR-stuff at the moment), it'd make a good companion to the Impiltur-article I'd say.

Two more... The Dragon Coast (although that one might be done best on a city-by-city basis) and Murghôm.

Oh, and stay out of the Wizards' Reach.
Patrakis Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 04:37:09
The lands surrounding the Reaching woods. Cities like Triel, Scornubel, Corm Orp. That regions is intriguing to me.

My first choice would be some place yet to receive good coverage, like Fuirgar or Sossal.
Lemernis Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 02:48:32
I would love to know more about the Lapaliiyan city-state of Ormpur. I love the fact that it's at the edge of the Shaar, that it's the only city in the Realms that openly worships Tiamat, that it has become wealthy from safron, that it was recently decimated by a holy war, etc. I'd enjoy learning more about it. FWIW, I started a little thread expressing my interests in it here.

VonRaventheDaring Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 02:09:08
I would love to know more about that Gnome nation, that they mention in the Eastern Sourcebook, it hits at them, but never come out and says anything about it. Pretty much anything they do would be awsome though!
KnightErrantJR Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 01:20:46
Good point sage . . . it would be interesting to see the information in Mysteries of the Moonsea and Sons of Grummsh thrown together into one pakage as well as learning more about the place in general.
The Sage Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 01:15:53
As would Thar -- as a regional compliment -- we've not seen much on this region since Elminster's Ecologies, just tidbits here and there.
KnightErrantJR Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 01:10:42
Damara would make a good compliment to both the Impiltur article and the information in Dragons of Faerun.
Dargoth Posted - 29 Sep 2006 : 00:55:11
How about Damara or at the very least Bloodstone pass or Skullport (It was only briefly touched on in CoS)

Oh, and some posters have requested information on places that already have been 'done' in 3E, like Halruaa. Dragon is unlikely to revisit such places. Similarly, the Hordelands are showcased in the next issue so that should make Snotlord happy.

Thanks again.

The lands between Faerûn and Zakhara or Kara-Tur. A more fluid transition would make the different settings feel more like one setting and less than a corporate gimmick.

A proper rpg treatment of Icewind Dale would be nice too. I'm a big fan of the computer games.

Amn goes without saying...
Eremite Posted - 28 Sep 2006 : 18:21:09
Narfell... especially if you can remove all the silly puns etc... that appeared in Bloodstone Lands.

It would also be a nice complement to your Impiltur article.
Reefy Posted - 28 Sep 2006 : 18:02:43
Sword Coast north (from Neverwinter upwards), anywhere in the Western Heartlands, anywhere in the Dales.
sleyvas Posted - 28 Sep 2006 : 17:04:04
I see these articles as being good ways to gather the snippets that you see all over the place and solidify what an area is like. As a result, there's several areas of the realms that are seeing this "type" of treatment (they only get snippets, and with snippets not being gathered, inconsistencies will creep in).
So, based on this criteria, the areas I'd like to see focused on next would be:

Damara - its been 12 years. What are the exact state of the various baronies. Who are the current barons (for instance, Donlevy the younger was only like 12 in 1358, but now he'd be 25'ish). Is Soravia still humanoid dominated? Are all of Gareth's compatriots still about? How are relations between it and Impiltur now? Between it and Narfell? How is the nentyarch and rotting man affecting things? What about Orcus' followers? What about Tiamat's followers? What about the citadel of assassins (and who are its top members now)? I'm thinking comparing the length of the Impiltur article, a lot of these questions could be answered.

The next place I would love to see visited is Unther, with some updates for Chessenta & Mulhorand. I know the place got a nice little visit in the Dragons of Faerun, but the political movers and shakers in these countries could use some clarification.

The next place I would love to see visited in this manner is Halruaa and Nimbral. There I would love to see more of a focus on the political and magical focuses (who are the major players, what are they doing, etc...)

hmm ... shining south ... more specificly Halruaa and Lurien

I loved the article on Impiltur and as to another region/nation I think the Lake of Steam would be great as would both the Western Heartlands and the Dragon Coast.
ShadowJack Posted - 28 Sep 2006 : 15:39:06
I would love to see new info on either Zakhara or Maztica... but, keeping it practical, i agree with the Moonshaes or a region of dwarves, gnomes, or halflings. Chondath would be great also. thanks for asking!

Hartsvale.

See Giantcraft for a more detailed treatment.

Hmmm... an interesting question.

Off-hand, and at this moment, I'd say the Dragon Coast -- as my "regional" choice -- and either Aglarond or Chondath as my "nation" choice.
Marc Posted - 28 Sep 2006 : 14:34:18
Moonshaes (but something new)

Hartsvale is the name...

and as I suggested in Ed's thread...I would choose Sossal, it is still the only kingdom/culture of Faerun that has practically nothing done with it...no sourcebooks, novels, etc.

other choices would be a revisit to the Moonsheas (other than the orginal 1E module and the novel series, nothing...), an update on the "other" Realms (Maztica, Zakhara, Kara-tur) in relation to Realms events, the Ride/Tortured Lands region or the Nelanther Isles (can be linked to the Savage Tide series)

and there is always that African continent revisited
