spelled Faerun (with that line above the U) 
From what has been revealed so far:
The planet the Forgotten Realms is in is named Aber-Toril...or just Toril
The continent the Realms is names Faerun (which is more a sub-continent, like Europe)
Faerun shares it's land mass with the Horde Lands (like mongolia) in the center and Kara-Tur in the east (China/Japan/India/etc.)
By a land bridge to the south is the Continent of Zakhara (arabian...like sinbad and alladin)
Sailing far to the west is the continent of Maztica (aztec/mayan/new mexco)
In the 3.0 Edition Forgotten Realms Source Book there is a rough map of the planet with a few more continents and sub-continents...
And waaaaaaaay in the past there were hints there is an African continent too...  |

Abeir Toril is the planet and Faerun is the continent used in the official FR. Maztica, Kara-Tur, Zakhara, all published in 2ed. were not part of Faerun, they were separate continents. |
