Another odd question -- back when Ed was writing of his "visits" to Elminster as a way of intorducing Realmslore, just how many Relams characters ever did supposedly visit our world? I remember El, of course, and the Simbul on 1-2 occasions.
I also seem to recall a drow sorceress, Susprinnia, who was one of El's former apprentices. Very powerful and lovely as I recall (did El ever have any apprentices that weren't young, lovely, and somewhat exotic?), from the Drow of the Underdark. Or am I mistaken?

If I recall wasn't Susprina the Drow in the pond (as stated above) which imparted El with knowledge about the Drow Race for the 2e book on Drow (Black cover with gold bits on)which if I recall he says in the preface he wrote????

This one bothered me enougyh that I went home on my lunch hour to root through my comic collection. 
The comic was "A Grand Tour of the Realms," in which the main story is about Elminster taking a slightly grown up Presto (from the D&D Saturday Morning Cartoon series) on as a temporary apprentice.
During their time together, Elminster & Presto travel to a private club where mages can rest in between their travels. Here thay meet up with Volo, who has a copy of his infamous "Guide to ALL things Magical." After Elmister again threaten Volo with life as a toad, he and Presto leave Volo sitting in the club.
As soon as he's gone, two people (a heavily bearded man and a shorter woman) arrive and ask Volo for the manuscript. Their names are Ed and Julia, and from the pictures it's pretty easy to tell that they're Ed Greenwood and Julia Martin. They've made a deal with Volo for the manuscript and say that they'll "clear it with Elminster after they publish the book."
So I was 1/2 right. Not bad for an old man.
The end result is that not only has Elminster been to Ead Greenwoods place here on Earth, but both Ed and Julia Martin have been to Faerun. I wonder how many other TSR staffers and/or freelancers have made the trip? Any thoughts? |

I think you're thinking of the "Everybody Wants to Rule the Realms" issue; it was one of the later FR issues, like 24 or something. Vartan (complete with fuzzy bunny slippers) was giving a tour of TSR headquarters, with TSR staffers and various Realms characters doing all sorts of various jobs. |

I remember seeing this to at one time; I am about 90% sure that one of them was Jeff Grubb. |

IIRC, there were at least two WotC or TSR employees that visted Faerun in one of the D&D commics. My faulty memory is forgetting which special issue or annual it was in, but I seem to recall the employees were Julia Martin and a male employee (maybe Jeff Grub?) That sounds like one of my articles, but I'm honestly not sure which one. As it had to do with Laeral and Khelben, I'll guess it might've been the one about the Harpers in Waterdeep (to which I put a nod in the novel). George or someone with better memory can give you article names and issue numbers.
And as far as I know, Ed & I had Laeral, Elminster, Khelben, Mordenkainen, Dalamar, and Qilue (disguised as Laeral) visit us at Ed's house or my cube at TSR. Can't recall which others.....

I know Khelben at least sent missives, and Laeral appeared in person, to a non-Ed scribe in Dragon. The guy started the article with him writing about Khelben preparing to meet with Laeral. It had something to do with flowers and him musing about being a "master of love," and then cut to her actually showing up in the guy's office and, laughing, telling him that Khelben was awful at romance. But that was years ago, and I can't remember who the writer was, let alone what the issue was. It was in the run-up to the release of some Realms product, that's all I remember. |

Elminster, Simbul, Qilue, the Knights of Myth Drannor (according to THO), and others that I can't recall right now. But Ed and THO have said in their posts that there is gates/portals/etc to our planet/universe/solar system but it's the D&D and or fantasy version of our plane/universe/solar system.
Also, Elminster's Hold in Realmspace has a portal to Ed's study and to Yellowstone 1894. :) |
