Well, just looked through the graphic novel version of Sojourn, and was both pleased and dismayed to see all the canine monsters in it (the barghests, worgs, winter wolf, etc.). Pleased because I like canines, both wild and domestic.

Dismayed because I always wonder why all the canids are evil and the cats are good. Everyone who ever owned a dog knows cats are the evil ones. ;)

More seriously, has there ever been anything from Ed or other writers on the 'Ecology" of the monsters listed above, in the Realms or elsewhere? Anything at all?

For that matter, are the wolfweres still around in any form?

Thanks for any help.

Then when they appear in the monster list on the WOTC web page or in a official WOTC printed book, I'll believe that otherwise they are still 3rd party. :)
Fair enough.

As I see it, as long as designers at WotC have said so, they're technically WotC stats now.

Actually, they are now.

The way it works now is... WotC have the right to republish those stats (and even update them if they wish), so long as they note they were printed under a 3rd party license based on material once owned by TSR. So, for all intents and purposes, they still are TSR/WotC material, or rather, are now TSR/WotC material once again.

I'll find the URL on the Fraternity's forums that had a big discussion about this with guys from both WW and WotC.

Now that you mention it I can not remember seeing either the Wolfwere or the Jackalwere being mentioned since the early days of the 2ed. I think that was also in the Ecology's.

The Jackelwere is in Fiend Folio for 3/3.5e. :) The wolfwere I don't think has been converted officially....

The wolfwere has been converted to 3e/3.5e, though not in any FR source. For RAVENLOFT, actually -- Denizens of Darkness for 3e stats, or the Denizens of Dread for 3.5e stats.

Ah but those really aren't official stats from WOTC. :) They were 3rd party till the license returned.

off the top of my head: blink dogs, moon dogs, mist wolves, foo dogs, cooshee are all good...

I think on the whole there are more cat monsters, of both alignments than dog monsters

Worgs are talked about in the Goblin Marshes and Cormanthor parts of the Ecology's. There are of course more positive canines in the elven dog and the Moonshae moor-dog.
