Recently I read the article in the latest Candlekeep Compendium on Shaundakul (really enjoyed it) and started reading all the lore on this deity. He had/has a temple in Myth Drannor. I have also been reading all the available Volo's Guides (free downloads from WotC-see Wooly with any questions...) In the Guide to all things Magical, the Dawnstone is discussed as it pertains to Lathanders temple in Myth Drannor and how the priests are rebuilding portions of Myth Drannor they can safely reach. This is all part of Lathander's portfolio of rebirth... I assume this lore is canon? Here are my musings... (I like that word lately) 1) What happened to these folks (priests of Shaundakul and Lathander) when the Dlardrageths moved in? 2) I would assume they aided the Crusade's efforts to retake M.D.? 3) Was their efforts at rebuilding (Lathanderites) along with Sarya's DemonFey's efforts, what enabled the city to be settled so quickly after the events of The Last Mythal series? It has been years since I looked at the 2nd edition material on Myth Drannor. I know that it listed some other people's/temples/groups that inhabited the city. Who were they? I guess you could say that M.D. was never really un-occupied... Just some random thoughts on my drive to work... |

Posted - 08 Sep 2006 : 02:20:31 Hence the "There was a temple...".
I've often been intrigued by the possibility that the temple in the 4th PoR book was based, somewhat, on the Mystran temple in Sheshryinnam.
I know it's probably unlikely, but I enjoy finding potential connections like this -- even if they are unintentional -- and expanding upon them.

I dimely recall a shrine/temple of Mystra as well that's used in the 4th Pool of Radiance novel that's based on the computer game/module of the same name.
But I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I read that book and much of that novel didn't make sense. :)
There was a temple to Mystra -- the Weave Mistresses' Hearth -- in Sheshyrinnam.
It was mentioned in Cormanthyr.
Aye, but the Pool of Radiance book 4 took place in early 1370's or late 1360's. :) |

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 23:21:04 I remember another reference somewhere to Shaundakul's presence in the city maybe in some novel or something... I think a novel that has Cormanthyrian drow in it has some mention of these ppl. not sure tho. |

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 22:41:39 There is that shrine to mystra in the novel and PC game. But it wasn't "inhabeted" by living creatures.
The temple to Shaundakul was also mentioned in F&P it's name is Shaundakul's Throne. At the writeing of F&P it was supposedly "manned", but I guess it was sort of ambiguous on the true nature of it. I thought I heard something that the dead magic zone the temple was in was a manifistation of Shaundakul himself.

amen to that...I never understood why it is considered the "4th" PoR novel...it is like saying any novel that included Waterdeep is part of the "Waterdeep" series...
I did like the book though, really! ...I just felt it was like the Baldures Gate novels...based of a video game and hardly canon |

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 18:30:05 As far as I know yes; with the exception of adventurer-priests the temple of Lathander is the only permanent operating temple. |

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 18:06:41 So, the only temple operating in the ruins of M.D. before the events of the Last Mythal series was the Temple of Lathander? |

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 17:19:39 Their is a slight issue with the destruction of Lathander's temple, as mentioned in the Last Mythal trilogy. The book mentions the destruction of the temple, but seems to place it within city limits. The description of the Dawnspire, however, places it outside of the city... I suppose an easy solution would be to say that since the RoMD boxed set, the priests of the Dawnspire had relocated to within the city... |

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 16:14:05 A good one to look at is cormathyr: empire of elves It has a good section on Sheshyrinnam (the temple district) The House of Song is an Oghman temple outside that district but: The Parentree to Corellon The Throne of Thought to Labelas Enoreth The Scholar's Hope a library temple to Deneir Oghma Corellon & Dugmarein Brightmantle The Weave Mystresses Hearth to Mystra The Heartforge to Moradin The High Axes Hall a temple for the dwarven pantheon The Crescent Court to Sehanine Moonbow House of teh Night's Sun to Selune Silverbeard's Loft to Clangeddin The Gleaming Hall to Garl Glittergold Shaundakul's Throne
In Kerradunath, the noble district, you have The Winds' Nest to Aerdrie Faenya & The Beauties Branches to Hanali
In Dlabraddath The tower of the Hand to Azuth & Lovers Glade to Sune (& unofficially Hanali as well) |

Good info Dargoth. I don't suppose you would know what page the mention is on do you? Just being lazy, I could search it out myself tonight... I did not put the years together as far as the Risen Sun heresy... Thanks!

I seem to remember a Temple that was in a tree or something in Myth Drannor. Whose temple was that? I also seem to recollect something about some Sunites being in Myth Drannor? I could be wrong it has been a long time ago that I read this info. (or think I read this info...
I think there was a glade dedicated to Sune in Myth Drannor?
Indeed, there was.

Posted - 07 Sep 2006 : 12:49:50 I seem to remember the priests of Lathander being the only "friendly" permanent occupants of Myth Drannor detailed in the 2ed. set. The others detailed were adventurers and wanderers.
Not much I can say when it comes to the events of the last mythal trilogy. Sorry. |
