I've been going through the old HORDE Boxed Set. One of the Rare Animals encountered in the Hordelands is a "steppe tiger."
Any idea what a "steppe tiger" is? Has it ever been statted out in D&D?
A quick Google search tells me that "steppe tiger" is a common term for the cheetah in southern Africa, a term for the tiger in lands around the Himalayas, and a monster in various RPGs (but no D&D).
Any idea?

It could of course also be a reference to the Caspian tiger that lived in large areas of the middle east earlier, the animal lived in large parts of the area inspiring the horde set and the term could have been used out of some thought for correctness. Either way, the standard format for tiger would be the one to use. |

Strangely, the Steppe Tiger isn't listed...i'd have expected it in the Horde box for sure. The "Wild Tiger" entry (under "Cats, Great") in the old AD&D Monstrous Manual tome lists terrain from subartic to tropical, so that should suffice  |

Steppe tiger a name for cheetah? Well, I would guess that they mean the common tiger in the Horde box; there is a species around Rashemen called Red Tiger, but I would guess the entry in Horde to concern the common tiger as I have never seen the name used in other products. |
