Its actually mini-series or mini series to help you understand a little better, zemd. Its just a few episodes of a TV show.

Mm, yes. I wasn't thinking about that. I was thinking along the lines of script . . . .

But what about a miniseries? Like The Tenth Kingdom. Perhaps that?

(I guess I'm getting caught up in this idea, huh? )
zemd Posted - 23 Mar 2003 : 21:32:06
I doubt that with a tv show we'll have something of quality (eng?) In Xena and Hercule there aren't any spells (i didn' see much but i don't remember seeing spells) and the special effects needed are too expensive.
Bookwyrm Posted - 23 Mar 2003 : 19:32:03
I wasn't suggesting that. (Though, from what I saw of Hercules, it was far better than Xena. ) We want something serious.
zemd Posted - 22 Mar 2003 : 13:42:11
I don't think a tv show would be good. Do you know the Xena and Hercules ones? Pityful
Bookwyrm Posted - 22 Mar 2003 : 04:00:02
When you're talking about movies, a from-the-book plot is feasible. But television . . . well, best to have an original plot. Get the readers hooked.

The TV show project has alredy been discussed

And if a movie could be done, i'd choose the Avatar Trilogy, but i'd prefer a new story to be made

Just for info's sake - I was at a Bob Salvatore booksigning in Santa Rosa a few months ago and there was some questions about this very thing. Unfortunately, there are no plans for a movie based on the Realms, as far as Bob knows. However.... He said that there is definite talks going on with him about making a live action TV series based on the Realms. The really cool part is that Bob will be directly involved with the project, writing for it or producing it, or maybe both. He was very adamant about being involved with it because of his fears that it would turn into another Xena or Hercules. He really hated the fact that both of those shows were just so cheesy and campy. He doesn't want that to happen to the Realms. The not so cool part is that none of the Icewind Dale characters will be portrayed, but he isn't ruling out Elminster or someone similar. He says there is nothing solid yet, but the talks are very serious and the interest is very high. Now how cool would that be?

Well, if the movies were done in the same fashion as the LOTR ones, I'd have to say yeah it would be a great idea. But I seriously doubt that anyone is going to want to try and make a video series more than two or three books. The Drizzt books (or at least some of them) would make for good shows as well as probably even the Song and Swords books. (I'm still catching up on the different FR books. heh heh. I'm working on getting through the paths of darkness series still. ).

As for anime style? Nah. It wouldn't do FR justice I don't think. (I also agree about the DnD movie. They went quite a bit overboard on the special effects and under on the plot. It was too...eh what's the word..."fantastical"...too showy. It didn't really feel like the place was 3-d. It just kinda felt like it existed...and that was it).

But yeah, I think that if someone were willing enough to try and make a FR film from one of the books, that would be really cool. Though I think they would have a heck of a time trying.

Books: hay look at the Sailor moon star lights!!! the star lights are guys who turn into girls!!!

anywho bout making the FR movie an anime i`d have to say no....(hehehe hate to burst your bubble Books) though i love anime. i think having live acters would be alot better, sides the Lord of the Rings animed movie was just ick *shudders at thought* it was just really bad....with what book/s to do it on i`d have to go with old Books san there
Bookwyrm Posted - 21 Mar 2003 : 02:23:01
The problem inherent in starting with an Elminster movie is that you'd have to start with Elminster: The Making of a Mage. Think about what takes place in that. You really think a magical sex change is going to go over well, especially with people who are already predisposed against D&D?
Salius Kai Posted - 21 Mar 2003 : 01:50:09
As much as I love anime (and sadly enough, have based my future around it), I have to agree. An Anime FR moviw wouldn't be that great. Granted, any FR movie would be good, but I would like to see something like LoTR come out for us FR Fans. I think (scince El Greenwood created FR), an Elminster movie would be a nice way to kick it off.
Aust Grimshadow Posted - 21 Mar 2003 : 01:07:07
Sorry, but i think the idea of making an FR movie an anime would be horrible. FR just isnt cut out for that sort of thing. But as far as making the movie goes, unless they did make it like LOTR, i dont think it would be too good. I doubt they would have much funding, and it might turn out to be as big of a flop and Dungeons and Dragons was. And for which book they should make it of, i vote for Icewind Dale or the Avatar Trilogy.
Bookwyrm Posted - 20 Mar 2003 : 23:45:05
Actually, I think the best candidate, the easiest to turn to film (sorry for beating you to saying this, Lost Elph ) is Azure Bonds. Not the whole trilogy, just that single book -- it's really a stand-alone novel. I think that's probably the best one for a first, trial film.

However, I still think that it would be more likely to fail.

I want to see ether a Drizzt movie or a movie of the Avatar Tilogy. That would be awesome, especially if it was live actors and not animated.

This is probably going to get off the ground as much as the Doom and Duke Nukem movies did. In my opinion, Drizzt doesn't have enough penetration into mainstream awareness, unlike "Lord of the Rings".

They got lucky and caught "Hairy Potter" on a wave of insanity.

In my opinion, no.

If they did, we all know who the main character would be.
zemd Posted - 20 Mar 2003 : 18:57:37
I don't like a lot the idea of a cartoon. A film, even if it's harder to make is much more fun!
Bookwyrm Posted - 20 Mar 2003 : 18:54:38
Uh oh -- I can almost guarantee that Lost Elph is going to go crazy over that one!
Trafaldi Posted - 20 Mar 2003 : 18:44:55
If some one does decide to do it. It would be easier to be make it an Anime. It would be difficult to do it with actors. I'd like to see them give it a try.
zemd Posted - 20 Mar 2003 : 17:23:32
I think that the LOTR showed to all how great can a fantasy movie be. IMHO, the actors/scenarists/... of the next film in this kind of atmosphere will know that they'll have to make a great job. I think it's worth to give it a try

I agree about the D&D movie , but you don't think it would be great to have movies about everyone of Drizzts books(although people who have never read it before would get terribly confused about The Icewinddale trilogy then the Dark Elf Trilogy)
