Just wondering where Faerun's fault lines would be. Someone on the Paizo boards mentioned that they had once put weather effects and earthquakes into their encounter charts, and it got me to thinking. I would assume that none of the major cities of the Underdark would be located near them, since that city wouldn't be there long, but I didn't know if this has been mentioned before . . . |

Hmmm... As I recall -- either it was Steven who originally said it, or it was mentioned in one of the sourcebooks dealing with the Sea of Fallen Stars -- the supposed meteor impact that created the Inner Sea added significant tectonic stress to the regions surrounding the Sea.
Now while these aren't exactly fault lines per se -- the direct impact itself may have caused tectonic stress lines to form through much of the geological structure beneath the Realms -- to say nothing about what such an impact may have done to the Underdark regions as well. This may have also triggered the earthquake activity around the Earthspurs and caused the massive uplift in the Orsraun Mountains.

I've postulated that the southern Impiltur coast, bordering the Earthfasts to the north and the Easting Reach and Sea of Fallen Stars to the south, has some earthquake activity - mainly because I see the Earthfasts squashing up against the Earthspurs and causing some tectonic activity. Just a few thoughts.

As I recall, Wooly, Kuje and I have a "natural disasters" question with Ed pending (from mid 05)... dealing with devastating climatic effects and geological activity. You might want to try pining Ed about this as well, in addition to what we've already asked.
