Posted - 25 Nov 2005 : 15:57:29 Ok, I was flipping through Lords of Darkness and came across that one of the high members of Eldreth Veluuthra was a Werestag (which has been changed now in Champions of Ruin).
Anyone know where the stats are for the Werestag? I've checked everywhere and it most all of the Monster Books. Am I just missing this?

Posted - 23 Feb 2012 : 22:12:59 I would use the stats for a werewolf, but substitute the following:
- Change the bite attack to a gore attack (1d6)
- Swap the feats Track and Weapon Focus (bite) for Lightening Reflexes and Run
- Swap Trip attack with 2 secondary hoof attacks (1d3, -5 attack penalty)
- Wolf Empathy becomes Deer Empathy (communicate with deer, elk, moose, and caribou; and +4 racial bonus on Charisma-based checks against deer, elk, moose, and caribou.

Posted - 23 Feb 2012 : 00:03:55 Cool - thanks for the link.
I wrote the book on the Fey, ya' know. Well... almost... for Fantasy Games Unlimited. I got the okay to do the sourcebook (for Chivalry & Sorcery), and I did research for a year (where was the internet back in 1979?), and by the time I started with the actual writing, Scott had moved FGU out to the west coast, and I lost touch.
See what procrastination gets you? A 'dream career' lost.
No big - I'll catch it the next time I'm reincarnated. |

Posted - 22 Feb 2012 : 18:53:34 Heh. I was considering giving him a pair of invisible Unseelie Hybsil Fey Archer cohorts.
Oh, Markus, I know that you have an interest in the Fey. The Fey Compendium at Giant in the Playground may interest you if you don't already know, ya know. |

Posted - 22 Feb 2012 : 18:30:01 The Hybsil would make a decent hybrid form.
There is also the Actaeon from the Mystara Monsterous Compendium.
What I truly fear is the Jermlain weregerbil. |

Posted - 22 Feb 2012 : 10:49:36 Are these things a threat to vegetable gardens everywhere? Seriously though, I'm trying to stat out Bhyrindar "Silverhart" one of the Vel'nikeryma. And I'm wondering about these creatures. On nights of the full moon do they turn into raging deer, biting everyone in site? How is their affliction passed on? I read of one in Volo's Guide to Cormyr but can't find a MM entry anywhere. I don't mind making it up, but what do I do with them? Give them a Gore attack and +10 to Jump? I'm reminded of some stupid cartoon I saw late at night on Adult Swim. On a more serious note, I found this rendition of Cernunnos, which isn't a bad depiction of what I think a werestag should look like. Are any of our more artistically inclined Scribes willing to try a hand at bad-assifying this? I have a few more pics and some ideas.
Wrong!
A sweet statue I'm thinking along these lines. |

Maybe I am daft, but I've never statted out a were creature other than the ones I already had published. How exactly do I make the were template? Or I should say, is there a book that explains how to do so?
There probably is and, being in a hurry, have completely overlooked it.

MM 3.5 in the Lycanthrope section tells how to make a Lycanthrope.
I found stats for a Red Deer (basically a regular deer) in Beastiary of Krynn.
Deer Medium Animal Hit Dice: 2d8 (8 hp) Initiative: +3 Speed: 50 ft. Armor Class: 13 (+3 Dex), touch 13, flat-footed 10 Base Attack/Grapple: +1/+1 Attack: Gore +1 melee (1d6) or hoof +4 melee (1d4) Full Attack: Gore +1 melee (1d6) or 2 hooves +4 melee (1d4) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: - Special Qualities: Low-Light Vision, Scent Saves: Fort +3, Ref +6, Will +0 Abilities: Str 10, Dex 16, Con 10, Int 2, Wis 11, Cha 6 Feats: Alertness, Run(b), Weapon Finesse (Hooves) Environment: Any Forest Organization: Solitary, Family (2-4), Herd (6-20) Challenge Rating: 1/2 Alignment: Always Neutral Advancement: 3-4 HD (Medium) Level Adjustment: -
A Were-Stag would have +6 Dex and +2 Wis for the ability adjustments in a Forgotten Realms Setting, +6 Dex in any other setting, for the Animal and Hybrid Forms.
Beastiary of Krynn also has stats for Elk and Moose. |

I'm pretty sure that The Silver Marches has stats for the fallow deer. |

Posted - 25 Nov 2005 : 16:40:11 Frostburn has stats for a Caribou (Medium Animal), which would be appropriate for a Big Deer. Frostburn also has stats for the Megaloceros (Large Animal), which is basically a Dire Elk.
