Does anyone know if any mention has been made of Sharantyr child since All Shadows Fled. Was Azuth insinuating that she (Sharantyr) was soon to have a child, or that eventually, when she did have a child, that it would be a Chosen (considering that Azuth referred to the child as being Mystra's and they then talk about Elminster not lasting forever, I would infer that means Sharantyr's child will be a Chosen of Mystra).

If she had the child soon after, that child would be learning a trade about now, especially if they end up being a wizard, or learning of any sorcerous abilities. I was just wondering about all of this, becuase barring someone that we don't know about, this is likely the first Chosen of the Midnight era of Mystra's existance.

Also, in light of another thread, the comment that Mystra makes at the end of the book, that Elminster cannot last forever, seems to indicate that he may not survive too much longer (in the grand scheme of things) and that Sharantyr's child would be his "replacement" in effect. Granted, given how long Chosen take to train and how long they live, this could still be several hundred years off, but it does start to show that El might be coming to the end of his stewardship of the Realms.

Yeah, that was, in part, why I was wondering. The child, if conceived near the end of the ToT, in other words, right after said pronouncement, would be old enough to be learning some kind of trade or profession right about now.

I think so--12-15 years old sounds like a standard age to be an apprentice.

I could be wrong, but regarding Sharantyr's age--it's never stated directly in the books, but I think one book hints at her age (in the form of some joking dialogue between Shary and El) as being in the thirties.

This is an interesting one - simply because Mystra and Azuth make these comments re Sharantyr at the end of the ToT (i.e. 1358 DR). It is now 1374 DR or so in the 'official' Realms, so 16 years have passed. If Sharantyr was a spritely 20 year old in 1358 DR, she's now 36. Maybe she's already had a baby (mind you, the father's identity is a total mystery) and we just haven't heard about him/her in published realmslore. We might get some glimpses about this situation in the forthcoming KoMD novel trilogy. So much realmslore to unfold, so little time ...

I didn't think that Mystra was alluding to a replacement effect; I think the author, Greenwood, was reminding us that all things eventually pass away, and for all his power someday Elminster will too.

I also didn't think Sharantyr's child would necessarily become a "Chosen" (as in, with the template)--there are plenty of devoted servants of Mystra and Azuth (and other gods for that matter) out there who aren't entitled "Chosen".

Thanks Kuje. I think I had heard about the Magister issue before, but I had forgotten it. Makes me wonder, with all of the preocupation on Chosen why more stories don't follow or even include the Magister.

I don't believe there's any more about her child. Also BTW there is already a Chosen that Midnight/Mystra created. The past Magister before the new one was given that office is now a Chosen.
