I was just wondering if a creature that was born into evil like a goblin, demon, gnoll, orc, etc. could turn to a god of light and be one of his followers. I wanted to have a evil creature that had turned to the path of light become a paladin or cleric of gods like helm or lathander. I know that worshipers of lathander trie to destroy evil were ever they find it. They like to destroy vampires and the such, but would they destroy a fellow brother like a demon that got tired of his old ways (((I know that sounds crazy))) and became a cleric of light.

Its just an ideal but I would like to know if it could work and if any one has already tried doing it or somthing like it.

Good Point Crennen!

D & D generally assumes that orcs, goblins and such, are evil. Demons and devils are evil, hence they are from the "lower" planes; ie, the Judeo-Christian hell. In the game evil is opposed by good. It is harder to have a hero if he goes around slaying neutral critters. The whole mythos of FR is built on this. Correllon Larethian is good, as are the elves he is the god of, his arch-nemesis is Gruumsh, god of the orcs, who are evil like the god they worship. In the end the game is ours to tailor as we desire, so if you want a lawful good mezzoloth, come up with a good story line to tell why... just my thoughts, I tend to believe there is a source of ultimate evil and people choose to strive againist that force or not...

Well, depends on what view of evil you take. D&D in general takes evil to be more of an objective thing - like orcs are evil, pixies are good, etc. Well, if you make the world subjective, everything gets blurred. You could have evil Archons, good Mezzoloths, etc. If one person doesn't do what they are "supposed" to do, well, it becomes much more subjective and runs the chance of tweeking the rules of the game.... "detect evil" becomes detect who the caster believes is evil, etc.

Shield of Innocence is also mentioned in Lands of Intrigue several times. This is a case of a creature from an evil race turning to the worship of a good aligned deity and having a major effect for good in a whole country.

Personally I don`t understand this about "evil race". The only creatures inherently evil are the fiends.

The stat block does not indicate her alignment, the sub-types are what you are seeing. The "(chaotic, evil, extraplanar, tanar'ri)" indicates her subtypes. Her alignment not listed, by RAW, has to be LG

It's curious that being still a paladin her alignment didn't change.

Well, Miltiades, while not evil, was an undead paladin (Pools trilogy), and there's always that succubus paladin, as mentioned. And I'm sure Eilistrae can have paladins (in fact, I built one once, if I didn't play her -- technically, an ex-paladin / blackguard, sucked back into drow society).

It's not too much of a stretch to have an evil creature that becomes a paladin of one of the gods of light -- excellent opportunity for a great backstory and roleplaying.

Cheers

Or the drow clerics of Corellon. :)
