Posted - 04 Feb 2003 : 09:41:01 Im almost at the end of The Thousand Orcs and both Bruenor Battlehammer and Ivan Bouldershoulder feature in the novel (hope this isnt a spoiler to anyone ), and both these characters make me laugh in their mannerisms and irrate nature.
Theyre both quite similiar and typical of the dwarven race....but who do you think is the grumpiest dwarf?
I think im gonna vote for Ivan! |

Posted - 28 Jun 2010 : 17:07:13 I would have to agree with Ivan being the grumpiest. Bruenor plays at being grumpy, but he really doesn't seem to be as grumpy as Ivan. |

Posted - 28 Jun 2010 : 15:17:22 Seems to me that the only time Bruenor is angry is when he's cooped up in Mithral Hall, other than that, hes out enjoying the road with his friends. Ivan is grumpy in Battle, in the Kitchen, in the day, in the afternoon, in the eve... |

Posted - 18 Feb 2003 : 14:34:15 Bruenor would be, he's a king and that brings alot of stress, but Ivan's brother is training to be druid, that must make him pretty angry. |

Has to be Ivan.
One of my players named his Dwarf character Herold Boulderbottom after the Bouldershoulder brothers - one of the best D&D PCs I've ever seen. |

Posted - 07 Feb 2003 : 15:52:09 Hard to decide Ivan has to deal with Pikel, but Bruenor has to deal with Drizzt, Cattie Bri, Wulfgar, Regis, and his entire clan.
But i think Ivan is grumpier because he is always grumping about Pikel's Druidic abilities. He was not happy traveling through a tree. |

hehehe! I never really took to Ivan and Pikel at first when I read the Cleric Quintet, because Pikel irritated me..... but thats exactly the point and certainly after reading The Thousand Orcs, I found that he went beyond irritation and actually amused me.... but I can feel the frustration of Ivan in having to cope with Pikel, it cant be easy No wonder Ivan has a short fuse! |

Posted - 04 Feb 2003 : 12:28:26 I would agree with Rad on Ivan. The Bouldershoulder brother is a little more of the stereotypical grumpy dwarf. Bruenor has featured more in the spotlight which awarded the readers with more insight in his character. The picture therefore painted of Bruenor is of a less grumpy slightly more balanced dwarf as opposed to Ivan. Though both are still grumpy dwarves. |
